Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

Scope of Position: Provide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing process and equipment.  Develop and maintain systems to monitor and proactively address equipment/process performance. Develop subject-matter expertise of material, process and/or equipment in focused areas of manufacturing and engineering.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide mechanical expertise and innovative designs to improve equipment throughout the plant.
  • Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with experts.
  • Uses rigorous processes and technical knowledge to build detailed understanding for key process steps.
  • Provide engineering-level production support to manufacturing operation.
  • Receive and integrate new technologies to improve process capability.
  • Actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to processes and equipment.
  • Lead and/or support projects involving cost reduction, process optimization, and new products/processes.
  • Develop and update engineering and operations documentation.
  • Provide training for operations workforce regarding equipment or operations changes.
  • Work with other team members and departments to ensure that product output at each process step meets or exceeds manufacturing budgets and goals. 
  • Execute cost reduction and PEx projects (DMAIC/DESIGN) in line with business objectives.
  • Develop and use project plans and timelines to achieve project goals without sacrificing safety, intellectual property, or quality.  Adhere to all Corporate, Business Unit, and Site guidelines for same.

Projects Involved with: Project activity will vary throughout the year. Position will support CET’s LDS, LDF and HDD product lines worldwide. Will include capital equipment improvements as well as new product introduction into manufacturing.

Role Within Group: Work with project teams in a support role that will cross multiple disciplines including design activities, process improvement and new product introduction.

Travel Requirements: Minimal domestic and international travel may be required but would be the exception.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Monday - Friday
  • Occasional overtime pending project needs. This includes weekends and potential off shifts which may be required.
  • This is in a plant setting.
  • PPE: Safety shoes (cannot be expensed). Standard issue safety glasses and hearing protection will be provided

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum Associate Degree in a technical program; Preferred 4 year technical
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment;  5+ years (preferred)

Required Skills:

  • Software: Drafting experience with CAD, AutoCAD, or Solidworks
  • Drafting - basic drafting as well as updating of existing designs
  • The ability to learn new technology and processes quickly.
  • Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions.
  • Results oriented and high commitment.
  • Use scientific method and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, using well-designed and executed processes.

  • Basic knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC / DESGN) methodology.
