Responsibilities

The Modeling and Simulation Department (MSD) is involved in the design and implementation of large-scale, system-of-systems simulations and provides world-class analysis of the performance and utility of space, ground, and related systems for DoD, NRO, Civil, and Commercial Customers. Specific areas of focus include military utility analysis, communication architecture and network assessments, space protection, scenario and concept of operations development, model-based system engineering, and ballistic missile defense.

 

Key Functions

  • Develop high performance technical computing applications in the areas of space system modeling, architecture performance assessment, and operations research
  • Develop and implement algorithms which exploit the corporate high performance compute clusters
  • Work with department analysts to develop new algorithms and processes, enhance tool capabilities, and perform analyses
  • Design new software tools and re-design existing tools to take advantage of object-oriented structures
  • Maintain and update existing software and convert tool functionality to current generation languages, structures, and operating systems
  • Develop and apply graphical user interfaces and visualization tools where appropriate
  • Modify and maintain computer code resident on Linux and Windows platforms as needed
  • Work both independently and on small teams and interact with program office and government customers.
  • Generate routine documentation of work in the form of user manuals and software documentation, regular status reports on progress, and occasional presentations before management, colleagues, and customers

Qualifications

Required

  • BS degree in engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, or related field
  • Two years of technical experience after a bachelor’s degree
  • Significant aptitude and demonstrated skills in object-oriented design using C++ or Java
  • Experience with both Windows and Linux development environments
  • Experience with software development processes including configuration management, testing, and documentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, dependability, and good interpersonal skills
  • Problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify, organize, and prioritize the timely completion of tasks
  • Current DoD Secret clearance or the eligibility to obtain that clearance is required

 

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in a related field
  • Experience in the modeling and simulation of large-scale systems
  • Experience with software technologies including database systems, web-based development, GUIs, and parallel processing
  • Experience with numerical analysis and the mathematics and algorithms associated with high-performance scientific computing
  • Experience with building interfaces between software tools and languages (e.g. Fortran, Matlab, and Python)
  • Experience interacting with subject matter experts to develop, implement, and test algorithms and perform analysis
