Manufacturing Engineer

Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for supporting production through continuous improvement initiatives on machining operations, routers, cells, and tooling. Additionally the manufacturing engineer will be responsible for organizing and developing CNC programs and manufacturing method sheets for relevant product lines.

 

Responsibilities:

Work closely with production manager with continuously developing, improving, and implementing machining cells, processes, and standards; through better organizing shop work flow processes, improved routing systems, and engineering machining cells. Investigates and troubleshoots process problems as they occur and takes necessary corrective actions. Develop and maintain a manufacturing standards document with close integration with existing routers.

  • Works closely with the Focused Factory manager and shop personnel to continuously improve and standardize current processes; develops and implements improved processes and incorporates into designs.  Investigates and troubleshoots process problems as they occur and takes necessary corrective actions.  Confers with Design Engineering to assure designs fit the best manufacturing processes.  Request engineering changes to reduce costs, improve quality or decrease manufacturing times.  Coordinates implementation of approved changes.
  • Work closely with production planner and production manager with prioritizing and organizing work through CNC machining cells. Support the planning of jobs through manual machining cells and machines.
  • Design tooling using Autocad and fabricate tooling for improving operation efficiency on both manual machines and CNC machines.
  • Work closely with QA Supervisor to continuously improve machining operations and engineering/design standards through generating corrective actions.
  • Will work closely with Lean BBs in coordinating and implementing lean initiatives/ techniques, as well as, facilitating Kaizen events.

 

Qualifications:

BS Degree in Engineering, plus a minimum of 5 years of experience manufacturing engineering functions to include processes and process improvement

OR

Associates Degree with 10 years of applicable work experience

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in manual milling and manual lathe machining techniques and operations
  • CNC lathe and CNC milling machining techniques operations, as well as, experience programming
  • Experience drafting in Autocad, and experience in developing tooling for various machining operations
  • Must be able to read blue prints, as well as, have knowledge of geometric tolerancing and dimensioning
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Very strong communication skills – Ability to interface with customers and employees of all departments
  • Knowledge of routing procedures and systems for fluid film journal bearings, tilting pad bearings, thrust bearings, and turbo-machinery seals - Preferred

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
