Position Overview

 

This skilled position involves the safe and efficient operation of motorized compaction equipment to bring soil, aggregate, and hot mix asphalt to density specifications, as well as, the asphalt paving machine. 

 

You will report directly to the Foreperson and/or Superintendent.  Our core values are safety, quality and integrity in everything we do.  All P.J. Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Safe and efficient operation of roller or paver
  • Must understand the compaction process.
  • Manipulates hand or foot levers to control movements of paving machine that spreads and levels asphaltic concrete on sub-grade of highway and related surfaces such as parking lots, streets, etc., turns hand-wheels to raise or lower screeds, regulates width of creed
  • May perform other related duties, such as adding or removing screed extensions, installing or removing automatic devices, grade log or other accessories associated with the machine. 
  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.
  • The operator is responsible for the efficient working condition of the equipment and is expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
  • May perform other related duties
  • Ability to perform periodic maintenance, including cleaning, servicing and minor repairs.
  • Must be able to work at night.
  • Must demonstrate constant awareness of co-workers and equipment in the work zone.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of rolling patterns and compaction rates.

 

Personal Protective Equipment

Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and construction areas as outlined by OSHA and state agencies.  Protective equipment that is required for this position:  Hardhat, safety glasses, reinforced toed shoes, hand protection, safety vest/high visibility clothing for any work in the field, and hearing protection.
