Health Assistant in Nursing (HAN) – Medical Oncology Ward 3A

Permanent, Part Time and Full Time Roles – Up to 80 Hours / Fortnight – 07:00 - 15:30 (Sunday-Friday)

Key Responsibilities

  • Safe and efficient patient care delivery under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Nurse Unit Manager.
  • Assist with personal hygiene, mobility and positioning, nutritional support, and elimination needs.
  • Support patient positioning, transfers and ambulation to enhance recovery.
  • Provide continuous observation and maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Assist with equipment and supplies management, ensuring adequate stock levels.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to achieve optimal health outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of care, clinical records, and administrative tasks.
  • Participate in continuing professional development, supervision, and training.

Essential Requirements

  • Certificate III in Health Services Assistance or equivalent.
  • Well‑developed interpersonal skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organisational, time‑management, planning and prioritising skills.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Patient‑centred and compassionate approach to care.
  • Previous experience in an acute healthcare setting (desired).

Background & Facilities

The medical oncology ward is a 32‑bed unit on level 3 at Peter Mac, offering single and double rooms with entertainment systems and online meal ordering. Patients receive chemotherapy, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, symptom management, palliative care and adolescent care.

Training & On‑boarding

Orientation includes hospital and nursing orientation, EMR training, communication skills training, manual handling training, safety training, and occupational violence and aggression training.
