The Legal and Professional Services division provides expert legal, taxation, financial planning, and genealogy services to customers across the entire agency.
About The Role
The Solicitor I-III Estate Management role provides high-level legal services, research and support in complex areas of law to ensure the provision of high quality, efficient and effective legal services for NSW Trustee and Guardian (NSWTG) and its clients.
The estate management practice group manage a diverse law practice dealing with a range of areas of law relevant to customers whose estates are subject to management orders made by the Supreme Court of NSW, the Mental Health Review Tribunal or the Guardianship Division of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal in accordance with the law, delegations, policy, procedures guidelines and practice standards to contribute to consistent, quality services being delivered to customers.
This role involves legal research, providing legal advice, and advocacy work before a broad range of courts including the Supreme Court of NSW, the District Court, Local Courts, Federal Courts (subject to admission) and tribunals including the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal and Administrative Review Tribunal.
It also includes advising and supporting other legal staff, management, and frontline staff regarding customers whose estates and person are managed by NSW Trustee and Guardian or where NSW Trustee fulfills statutory duties concerning private financial managers.

About You
To be successful in this role you will need litigation and dispute resolution skills and be able to provide sound legal advice. You will need to work with a high level of independence and be proactive in developing work plans and priorities. You will also need to work collaboratively and provide support to non-legal staff. You should have a strong understanding of the structure and culture of government and the political and legal sensitivities of operating within the public sector.

Essential Requirements
- Completion of a law degree from an accredited law school or completion of the Legal Practitioners Admission Board Diploma in law Course.
- Admitted as legal practitioner in NSW and have a current NSW practising certificate.
- Developed legal skills and experience which enable provision of advice and representation in appropriate legal matters in areas of law which affect NSW Trustee and Guardian’s areas of operation.
- Experience in any or all of the following areas of law would be desirable:
- Equity
- Administrative law
- Personal Injury
- Wills and Estates
