Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Research Scientist II (Analytical Chemistry) for our Safety Assessment site located in Shrewsbury, MA


The Research Scientist II (Analytical Chemistry) will design and execute Analytical Chemistry and Dose Formulation Analysis (DFA/AC) strategies and studies in support of Discovery, Pharmacology, and GLP studies at a toxicology testing facility.  Supports de novo assay development, assay transfer, assay validation, and study execution, and is involved in data review and acceptance (e.g., small molecule, protein, nucleic acid, etc.) emphasizing HPLC and UPLC expertise (reverse phase; size exclusion; ion exchange).  Familiarity with validation procedures, Empower 3, and Chemstation software and instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.  Interprets study data, communicates results to clients and internal project teams, and writes final reports.  Serves as Project Scientist, Principal Investigator, Contributing Scientist, Project Leader or Study Director, as applicable. Crafts and ensures compliance with protocols and all applicable SOPs related to DFA/AC, including partnership with site QA. Troubleshoots and resolves assays or technical issues. May introduce new technologies or introduce improvements in existing DFA/AC technologies. Provides advisory functions to clients designing a program or experiment, dealing with specific dataset interpretation, or when appropriate answering questions from regulatory authorities.  Partners with site Client Services on pricing, study design, and revenue generation, as required.  Attends and presents at scientific meetings, conferences, and training courses to advance job and professional skills.


The following are minimum requirements related to the Research Scientist II (Analytical Chemistry) position.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (B.S./B.A.) or equivalent in a scientific related discipline, preferably Chemistry. Related Master's degree (M.S./M.A.) or PhD/DVM preferred.
  • Experience:  Minimum of 8 to 9 years related experience in the contract research, academic, or pharmaceutical industry. 
  • Dose formulation procedures and stability experience preferred but not required
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Certification/Licensure: Certification as appropriate for specialty preferred.
  • Other:  Understanding of regulatory requirements of study types assigned, as well as Testing Facility SOPs and the Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), as appropriate. Demonstrate leadership skills as they pertain to intra- and interdepartmental initiatives, Sponsor interactions, and business development. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize work and meet deadlines. Proficiency in the use of standard software including Microsoft® Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc. and with standard laboratory calculations.
