The Opportunity:
Canfor is currently seeking a motivated and experienced leader to join our team as an Energy Manager.

The Role:
The Energy Manager has the responsibility of developing and implementing a Strategic Energy Management Plan for the Canadian Solid Woods Operations at Canfor.  This is an established role located in Prince George and is a partnership with BC Hydro, with a performance contract that would report into the CAPEX group.  It offers the candidate room to grow within Canfor, and provides excellent exposure to many different areas of the business. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating Facility Energy Audit
  • CAPEX Project Scoping
  • Benchmarking Facility Energy Usage for use in Reports
  • Identifying and Evaluating Energy Conservation initiatives
  • Setting Achievable targets and objectives for Canfor’s Energy Management Program
  • Working with facilities and Canfor’s capital group to implement energy cost savings
  • Liaising with BC Hydro PowerSmart staff on facility specific issues studies and incentive opportunities
  • Representing Canfor at BC Hydro Industry Group Meetings
  • Meeting BC Hydro Performance Contract Deliverables


The Candidate:


Education and Qualifications:

The successful candidate will bring the following experience and expertise:

  • Registered Professional Engineer or EIT with relevant experience, Certified Energy Manager, or Master’s designation in any business field (or acceptable equivalent) or combination of training (electrician, power engineer, mechanical technologist) and technical experience exceeding a minimum of five years
  • Proficiency with common computer software such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience and ability in writing reports
  • Programming experience would be considered an asset (C#, Javascript, MATLAB)


Preference will be given to candidates with some of the following:

  • Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm related to energy efficiency
  • Wood Products facility capital project and/or operational experience
  • Knowledge of energy efficient technologies
  • Understanding of demand-side management programs
  • Experience with utility and government energy efficiency funding programs
  • Capability in performing financial analyses
