We are seeking a highly motivated Market Intelligence Data Analyst to join our Markets Group. In this role, you will play a critical part in identifying and assessing evolving market trends, systemic misconduct, and emerging risks across Australian financial markets. You will work on high-impact projects that directly contribute to regulatory insights and outcomes, leveraging your data expertise to deliver actionable intelligence.
ASIC's Markets Group is responsible for ensuring investors have the trust and confidence to invest in Australia's financial markets and ensuring all Market participants, infrastructure providers and gatekeepers operate with integrity, resilience, and transparency. This is done by managing the end-to-end process for regulating markets including supervision, triage, investigation, and enforcement. The Markets Group also provides regulatory advice, considers applications and engages with stakeholders pertaining to the regulation of markets.
As part of Markets Group, the Market Intelligence Team conducts thematic reviews and research in relation to Market Integrity issues and maintains the market surveillance system. We produce quantitative market integrity analysis, lead innovative projects to enhance detection of market misconduct, input into evidence-based policy making and collaborate with other teams on data solutions.
The role
Your Role
As a Market Intelligence Data Analyst, you will:
You hold relevant tertiary qualifications in a quantitative discipline such as finance, statistics, mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, or actuarial studies. You bring strong statistical and programming skills, with experience in analytical roles within corporate, consulting, government, or academic environments. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R is highly desirable, with additional knowledge of KDB+ and Q considered a strong advantage.
You have experience working with large, complex datasets from diverse market vendors and proprietary sources, and can efficiently collate, process, and analyse data to extract meaningful insights. You are adept at applying diverse technologies and analytical techniques to distil complex data into actionable regulatory intelligence.
You possess excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills, enabling you to draw robust conclusions from both qualitative and quantitative data. With strong business acumen and a sound understanding of Australian financial markets and the regulatory environment, you exercise professional judgment and critical thinking in assessing risks and identifying potential issues.
You are a confident communicator, capable of presenting complex information in a clear, intuitive, and persuasive manner to diverse stakeholders. You thrive in dynamic environments, demonstrating adaptability, initiative, and the ability to quickly respond to emerging trends and priorities. Your ability to build and maintain strategic relationships allows you to collaborate effectively across multiple teams and stakeholders.
