The Opportunity

Are you an experienced civil construction professional ready to lead from the front? Wollongong City Council is seeking a motivated and skilled Civil Foreperson to join our City Works team. This is your opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality maintenance and construction projects that directly impact our community.

As a Leading Hand, you'll be responsible for supervising and coordinating civil construction and maintenance works across the city. You'll lead a dedicated team, manage resources, ensure safety and environmental compliance, and contribute to the planning and delivery of key infrastructure projects.

This is a permanent full-time position and may include some weekend and over-time work depending on operational requirements. Salary from $83,993.22 up to $92,780.60 per annum plus superannuation (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications). This position involves undertaking repetitive manual tasks and applicants should be suitably fit to undertake the duties as outlined in the job description.

What you will be doing

In this hands-on leadership role, you will:

  • Lead civil works teams on-site in a hands-on leadership role
  • Ensure smooth daily operations through effective planning and coordination of:
  • Resources
  • Schedules
  • Priorities
  • Maintain high standards of:
  • Safety compliance
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with:
  • Stakeholders
  • Contractors
  • Members of the public
  • Focus on successful project delivery by:
  • Monitoring progress
  • Addressing challenges proactively
  • Providing timely and accurate reporting to all parties

About you

You'll bring a Certificate III in Civil Construction or equivalent hands-on experience, along with a solid background in civil construction and maintenance. You will have experience leading team in civil construction. Your leadership skills will shine as you guide and coordinate teams, ensuring projects run smoothly and safely. With a strong understanding of WHS and environmental regulations, you'll be confident in upholding compliance on-site. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will help you build strong relationships with your team, stakeholders, and the community. A current Class C Driver's Licence and relevant industry tickets-such as a White Card and Traffic Control certifications-are essential to hit the ground running.

You will bring following licences/tickets, if not, you will be willing to obtain:

- Working near power lines

- Traffic Control Using a Stop/Slow Baton - Level 1
