Reporting to the Canterbury Park Racecourse Manager, this permanent full-time position will be responsible for maintaining the course proper, training tracks and grounds at our Racecourses ensuring they are presented in the best possible condition. Whilst predominately based at our Canterbury Park Racecourse, the Groundsperson, Grade 1 may be rostered to perform work on occasion at any of the four (4) Club sites – Royal Randwick, Rosehill Gardens, Canterbury Park, Warwick Farm Racecourses.
Day To Day, The Role Will
- Undertake general maintenance work including labouring, cleaning, tracks, gardens and maintenance instructions,
- Operate plant equipment such as tractors, mowers, front end loader forklift, power, sweepers, power harrows, brush cutters, hedgers, push mowers and general spray operations,
- Conduct routine maintenance of turf, synthetic, artificial and other surfaces,
- Working hours: 8:15am – 4:45pm.
To be successful in the role, the right fit will have the following experience and capability:
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role, preferably in turf management;
- General operational and mechanical maintenance skills;
- Appropriate licences to operate specialist machinery such as a manual vehicle, front end loader and forklifts (as applicable);
- Experience in operating plant and equipment including Bobcat, Grader and Excavator would be desirable;
- Sound knowledge and practical experience of handling and spraying chemicals;
- A demonstrable ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Sound verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
- Sound literacy and numeracy skills.
