The organization operates 41 major dams and oversees hundreds of waterways, playing a key role in capturing, storing, and delivering water for the environment, agriculture, industry, and communities.With responsibility for two-thirds of all water used across the state, WaterNSW ensures the availability and sustainability of this essential resource, supporting the needs of today while safeguarding it for future generations.What Will You Be Doing?As a Water Industry Operations Trainee, you'll work towards earning a nationally recognized qualification while collaborating with an experienced team to:Contribute to daily maintenance and service tasks.Provide first-level support for operations and equipment maintenance by following instructions and completing assigned duties.Assist with water monitoring, including quality checks and flow measurements.Track your learning progress and milestones, keeping supervisors updated.Maintain competency records and document completed work.Complete all required training to meet Traineeship Training Contract and role specifications, ensuring high standards of safety and quality.A Day in the Life as a Water Industry Operations Trainee:Your day kicks off with a safety-focused toolbox talk before joining the team to tackle hands-on tasks. Gain exposure to key systems, participate in workshops for further qualifications, and end the day reflecting on your experiences, asking questions, and gaining insights from supervisors and teammates. Check out a short video to see what a day in the life looks like - watch?v=gn9FhCJ_HewThroughout the day, you’ll:Perform routine equipment checks and assist with repairs.Help install water mains junctions for properties.Gain experience in trenching, piping, and water supply systems.Monitor water quality, filtration, and chemical processes.Shadow operators during water testing and maintenance.Learn about wastewater treatment and environmental standards.Build skills in sustainable water management.The Ideal TraineeWe’re looking for motivated individuals with the following qualities and skills:A willingness to learn, coupled with honesty and reliability.Basic computer literacy and written communication skills.Physical fitness and confidence in swimming.The ability to follow instructions and adhere to workplace safety procedures.A proactive mindset, ready to tackle challenges with a positive attitude.Flexibility to travel to dams, filtration sites, and other operational locations as needed.To Be Successful, You Will Need:A valid White Card or willingness to obtain.Driver’s Licence P1 or above.The ability to meet pre-employment requirements, including a medical which involves a Fitness Functional Assessment and Drug and Alcohol screening, occupational vaccinations, and a police check.About Zeal FuturesZeal Futures provides the ultimate training and employment experience.
