Dispensary Counter Assistant (23-30 hours per week)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Dispensary Counter Assistant to join our friendly and growing team at Henmore Health - Brailsford, and would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will support the dispensary in all areas of dispensing, ensuring a high level of service is delivered at all times, whilst supporting the multi-disciplinary team in line with the strategic objectives of the practice.

Hours of work are between 23-30 hours per week and will cover the opening hours of the Practice Dispensary between 9am - 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Henmore Health is a positive and dedicated provider of primary care in the Ashbourne area, the gateway to the Peak District. We comprise 2 practices located 7 miles apart: Henmore Health The Surgery Ashbourne and Henmore Health Brailsford. This position is based at Brailsford.

We are high-performing SystmOne dispensing practices, serving a growing rural community of over 13,500 patients.

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the counter assistant. There may be occasions where other tasks are required, depending on workload and staffing levels:

  1. Act as the focal point for patients, answering the phone and hatch
  2. Collect prescription charges in accordance with dispensary protocol
  3. Maintain stock levels within the dispensary, liaising with the dispensary manager/supervisor to facilitate reordering
  4. Receive and store supplies in accordance with current policy, ensuring the cold chain is maintained where applicable
  5. Ensure safe disposal of returned and/or out-of-date medicines
  6. Support the processing of repeat prescriptions, ensuring a 48-hour turnaround is achieved
  7. Process prescription requests via email, phone, fax, face-to-face, and online
  8. Assist the Dispensary manager/supervisor in the preparation of monthly returns
  9. Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times
  10. Maintain accurate records at all times, reading coding entries appropriately

Qualifications

  • Good standard of general education
  • GCSE (or equivalent) English & Maths at Grade C or above

Experience

  • Experience of working in primary care
  • Experience working with the general public/patients
  • Experience of working in a dispensary
  • Broad knowledge of General Practice

Other requirements

  • Willingness to undertake the NVQ Level 2 in Dispensing Services
  • Flexibility to work outside of core office hours
