The Role:
PhD Scholarship for GenAI in Education
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic PhD candidate who is excited about generative AI and emerging technologies, especially within the education sector. The successful candidate will be based at Deakin Burwood campus. This position is part of the CSIRO Next Generation Emerging Technology Graduate Program for Empowering Humans within the Metaverse, in collaboration with Western Sydney University.
The PhD will be of 3.5 years duration, with a tax-free scholarship of $43,333 per annum, with annual indexation. Additional allowances include $5,000 per annum for training, $5,000 for travel throughout the candidature, and $840 for thesis expenses. Additional cost of living allowances may apply.

Applicants must meet Deakin's PhD entry requirements, be enrolling full-time, and hold an Honours degree (First Class) or an equivalent Master's degree with a substantial research component. Please refer to Deakin's entry pathways to higher degrees by research for further details.
The successful applicant will have an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Information Systems. This position is open to domestic candidates only (Australian PR/citizen, or New Zealand citizen).
Your key responsibilities will be to:
The successful candidate will work as part of a team (including other PhDs) on AI innovations to teach speaking and listening skills to school children. The project involves collaboration with Kinetic Education, an industry-leading online tutoring platform for English, maths, and other subjects. The project aims to enhance the platform with AI innovations to deliver lessons and assessments in speaking, listening, and communication skills to school students. The candidate will work closely with the Kinetic Education team throughout the project, leveraging their industry expertise and providing ongoing updates and progress reports.
