Barrett Adolescent School is a specific purpose school, supporting up to 50 secondary students who have disengaged from mainstream education due to complex and ongoing mental health challenges. Students are supported to re-engage in education, accessing the Australian Curriculum and a variety of senior pathways in a flexible, inclusive and tailored learning environment. Following successful re-engagement with the educational setting, students are assisted in their transition to an educational facility, training or employment that meets the agreed upon learning goals and personalised needs of each student.

Responsibilities:

• Experience and knowledge in Year 7-10 Maths curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements.
• A willingness to case manage students with ongoing and complex mental health challenges.

Essential skills:

• The ability to differentiate teaching to meet the specific learning needs of students across a range of abilities and within multi-aged classrooms.
• Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed practices.
• Unconditional positive regard for vulnerable cohorts of students with complex mental health challenges.
• Ability to communicate effectively and display high levels of interpersonal skills to function as an effective team member.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A relevant teaching qualification.
  • Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland. Pre-service/graduate teachers must have been granted provisional registration prior to commencing employment as a teacher.
  • Employment for pre-service/graduate teachers will be subject to the successful completion of a relevant teaching qualification and meeting the minimum requirements as a teacher with the department.
  • Working rights in Australia, which means you have, or you are eligible to obtain a valid Australian Visa with work rights (if you're not already an Australian Citizen or resident).
