Substation Engineering & Design - Recruitment Specialist - MBA (Human Resources)

Overview:

We are currently recruiting for a Controls & Automation Engineer for substations to be based in Perth, WA in a permanent role for our client who operate in the Power Transmission & Distribution sector.

Please note that the first project is one of Australia's largest BESS projects and will be site based and require the candidate to do a (DIDO) Drive in Drive out roster. The roster would be 8 days on 6 days off.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineering design, document preparation, configuration, testing commissioning, and troubleshooting for Substation Automation System/SCADA and gateway solutions.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of substation primary equipment and basic protection functions (desirable).
  • Utilise prior experience with substation automation systems, Remote Terminal Unit (RTU), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and Gateways with a focus on redundant system design.
  • Showcase knowledge of SCADA, communication, and protection panel-related design.
  • Generate detailed design documentation for communication network design, including expertise in Ethernet switches, Protocol converters, and familiarity with SCADA protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, IEC 60870-5-101, IEC 60870-5-104, IEC 61850.
  • Produce high-quality, well-structured technical reports documenting study findings, results, and recommendations.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, some with short delivery timeframes.
  • Be willing to attend sites for data collection, asset assessments, inspections, and commissioning support.

Required Experience:

  • Proven experience in engineering design, document preparation, configuration, testing commissioning, and troubleshooting of Substation Automation System/SCADA and gateway solutions.
  • Clear understanding of substation automation systems and their components.
  • Familiarity with substation primary equipment and basic protection functions is desirable.
  • Previous hands-on experience with substation automation systems.
  • Knowledge of SCADA, communication, and protection panel-related design, with the ability to generate detailed design documentation.
  • Experience in communication network design.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to produce high-quality technical reports.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, some with short delivery timeframes.
  • Strong IT proficiency and computer literacy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Controls and Automation Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
