Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) Course in Melbourne

Short Courses Australia deliver the nationally accredited SITXFSA006 Participate in safe food handling practices courses across Melbourne & regional Victoria.

Courses are delivered face-to-face in a classroom setting at our colleges across Melbourne and Victoria.

This (8) eight-hour course incorporates both Level 1 Food Safety and Level 2 Food Safety Supervisor knowledge requirements to handle food safely during the storage, preparation, display, service, and disposal of food. It requires the ability to follow predetermined procedures as outlined in a venue's food safety program, which is based around the key HACCP principles.

The course applies to all organisations deemed to require a food safety program as determined by local governments. This includes restaurants, cafes, clubs, and hotels; tour operators; attractions; function, event, exhibition and conference catering; educational institutions; aged care facilities; correctional centres; hospitals; defence forces; cafeterias, kiosks, canteens and fast-food outlets; residential catering; in-flight and other transport catering.

It applies to all food handlers including cooks, chefs, head chefs, caterers, kitchen hands, food and beverage attendants/supervisors, managers, owners, and key stakeholders.

The food safety supervisor course covers the following criteria:

  • Follow food safety program.
  • Store food safely.
  • Provide safe single-use items.
  • Dispose of food safely.

Failing to comply with the Food Act 1984 (the Act) requirements may lead to:

  • Revocation or suspension of registration of the food premises.

If you are to use this certificate outside of VIC, in some cases, after completion of this unit, state and territory authorities require candidates to complete a bridging course to address these specific differences.
