Job Description
HammondCare pastoral care volunteers support the spiritual and emotional needs of elderly clients living in their homes. As a pastoral care volunteer, you’ll be actively involved with a local Christian church.
Can you offer a listening ear and a caring heart to someone seeking meaning and connection?
We’re seeking a pastoral care volunteer to visit a kind widower once a fortnight. Though his mobility is limited, his heart is open. Since the passing of his wife, whose faith meant a great deal to her, he’s begun exploring his own spiritual questions. He loves country music, cherishes his family, and enjoys talking about life, current events, and what may come after.
Your visits could be a gentle ministry of presence, offering comfort, connection, and space to explore faith and life together.
You’ll support and complement the work of our HammondCare At Home Pastoral Care Coordinator, and under their direction you may:
* Support people to meet their spiritual needs
Skills required for this role:
- High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills.
- Pastoral Care training, such as Chaplaincy, Clinical Pastoral Education, or attendance at HammondCare's pastoral care training—Spiritual Care Series—to prepare for becoming a pastoral care volunteer.
Your impact
Volunteering alongside Pastoral Care can be a rewarding experience for both the visitor and the person visited. Regular visits can help improve quality of life and reduce feelings of isolation.
