Position Title: Senior Virtualization Engineer
Location: Madrid, Spain.
Travel: Up to 6 months
Department: Global Event Infrastructure
Open to candidate who would require relocation.
Role Summary
This role involves the design, deployment, and management of IT and cloud infrastructure for a major global broadcast event. The engineer will oversee the project from planning to execution and manage a small technical team during operations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Team Management
- Create project plans and manage timelines and milestones
- Lead procurement processes (RFQs/RFPs) per company procedures
- Support budget planning and resource allocation
- Build team structure, hire and coordinate up to 6 engineers
- Manage shift schedules and task assignments
- Interface with vendors and internal stakeholders
- Participate in cross-functional infrastructure planning groups
Technical Operations
- Design and implement cloud and virtualization solutions
- Coordinate infrastructure deployments at host locations
- Produce system documentation (diagrams, cable lists, rack layouts)
- Manage Linux/Windows-based systems and support cross-department needs
- Monitor critical systems (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Zabbix)
- Contribute to cybersecurity practices for technical systems
- Serve as product owner in SCRUM-based software projects
- Work with cloud video protocols (e.g., SRT, HLS) and media encoders/transcoders
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science or related field
- 5+ years in virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM, Proxmox)
- Experience in cloud infrastructure, team coordination, and network technologies
- Familiar with Docker, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), and stakeholder communication
- Strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Linux/Windows administration
- SAN/NAS management experience
- Relevant certifications (AWS, CCNA, VMware, etc.)
- Python scripting for automation
