Horse Trainer – Full Time

North Bloodstock Pty Ltd located in Scone in the Hunter Valley is currently seeking highly experienced and capable staff to join our team on a full-time basis.

We are looking for a motivated, determined & experienced individuals who have professional horse stud experience.

Horse Trainer/Breeding – Duties will include:

  • Overseeing daily care and supervision of horses
  • Training and preparing young stock and mares for sale
  • Educating yearlings including teaching them to walk, stand and parade
  • Monitoring mare ovulation and pregnancy
  • Foaling mares and early education of foals
  • Assisting Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination including assisting in birthing foals and administering medical treatment to foals

Essential Criteria

  • Knowledge of horsemanship practice at Certificate III level as a minimum standard, or in the absence of a qualification at least three years professional experience with breeding horses
  • A minimum of at least two years’ experience handling & working with thoroughbred horses
  • Proven knowledge & experience of horse handling & training methods specific to the thoroughbred breeding industry, including working with broodmares & foals and preparing weanlings and yearlings for sale
  • Oral & written communication skills of a level to take instruction & prepare basic reports
  • Sound knowledge of health & safety obligations & demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training & breeding of horses

Additional Desirable Criteria

  • Ability to undertake administrative responsibilities, including bloodstock and training record keeping and supervision of staff at sales and on the farm if required
  • Ability to take leadership of a team when required

Terms of Employment

These are full-time positions, with a minimum commitment of at least 2 years.

The salary will be above award – in the range of $72,000 to $77,000 per annum. Additionally, on-farm accommodation may be available.
