Job location

This position is located at the Community Forensic Mental Health Service (CFMHS) in Clifton Hill, 15 minutes from Melbourne’s city centre. CFMHS is a specialist state-wide agency that works with individuals who have a serious mental health illness and have offended or are at risk of offending. Our CFMHS Service is soon to be expanding our services to Regional Victoria with Barwon services being the first region to commence.

About the Role:

The Senior Psychologist provides a high level of clinical and forensic psychological expertise to CFMHS and undertakes assessments and treatment of clients referred to the Problem Behaviour Program (PBP) as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This role also involves the processing of Intake referrals to the PBP and engaging in decision-making regarding the acceptance of referrals to the program based upon several eligibility criteria, including risk. Provision of assessments and treatment will be predominantly delivered at Forensicare, CFMHS, located at Clifton Hill. In addition to the above, the senior psychologist shares responsibility for the supervision and training of other psychologists or staff within the PBP. The senior psychologist may also provide supervision to postgraduate psychology students and may be involved in scholarly writing and research. As a senior professional representative, the position also provides consultancy and advice to other agencies and key stakeholders.

Duties:

  • Provide specialist psychological, psychometric, and risk assessments and reports where required, including reports for the Courts and other agencies.
  • Provide an advanced range of advice on psychological services including secondary consultations regarding the management and treatment of complex client issues to other clinicians and also to professionals supporting and supervising these clients.
  • Process Intake referrals to the PBP, engage in decision-making regarding the acceptance of referrals, and provide advice to referrers regarding risk management and other service options for those clients who do not meet PBP’s eligibility criteria.
  • Provide individual and/or group-based interventions as appropriate.
  • Assess and deliver treatment interventions to clients in settings external to Forensicare, where required, including prison settings and secure residential settings.
  • Contribute to patient risk management plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.

About You:

  • Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
  • Endorsement or eligibility for endorsement by the Psychologists Registration Board of Australia, in the area of clinical psychology.
  • At least five years of experience practicing as a psychologist.
  • Extensive knowledge of the current psychological approaches in working with mentally and/or behaviourally disordered clients in the forensic mental health setting.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, the mental health system, and the criminal justice system.

What you need:

  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited course or equivalent, or a Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
  • The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential.
