Job Description

This exciting role, working with the General Manager of Quality, Safety, and Practice, will assist in establishing the Positive Behavioural Support service at Araluen. Under supervision from an advanced practitioner, you will work with participants, families, and support networks to provide positive behaviour support, conduct functional behaviour assessments, and develop behaviour support plans.

This position may evolve into an Advanced Practitioner role specializing in Positive Behaviour Supports at Araluen.

Tasks & Capabilities

  • Work under general direction; tasks may include but are not limited to:
  • Develop a learning log outlining the path to become an Advanced Practitioner, including NDIA registration.
  • Attend supervision sessions with an Advanced Practitioner for professional development.
  • Collaborate with participants and their support networks to complete functional behaviour assessments and develop behaviour support plans.
  • Identify through discussions and observations:
    • Unmet needs of the participant
    • The function and purpose of their behaviours
    • Existing strategies to address behaviours
  • Provide specialist training to support providers in implementing behaviour support plans, including strategies and the use of regulated restrictive practices.
  • Review support practices to ensure compliance with prescribed behaviour support plans and responsibilities regarding restrictive practices.

Key Selection Criteria

Capabilities

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of PBS experience in Australia.
  • Core or Proficient Registration as a PBS Practitioner.
  • A keen interest in positive behaviour support and its impact on participants’ lives.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and train other staff.
  • Experience in providing Positive Behaviour Supports within an NDIS setting.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation related to restrictive practices.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with participants, families, and support staff, and to deliver training on behaviour support strategies.
  • Support for using and mastering new technologies.
  • Compliance with all Araluen policies, procedures, practices, laws, and industrial agreements, seeking clarification when needed.
