    About the Position: This position serves as a leader of employees engaged in trade and labor work, including engineering equipment operation and maintenance operations, at a dam site.

    Responsibilities
    • Operate and maintain heavy equipment to include: bulldozers, loaders, dump trucks, excavators, backhoes, etc.
    • Operate power tools (such as chainsaws, weed eaters and hedgers) and hand tools (such as pruning shears and handsaws) to clear vegetation around dam sites.
    • Perform quality assurance inspections of field work in the areas of concrete, soil compaction, and erosion control.
    • Interpret construction plans, specifications, and blueprints in order to establish project requirements in a grade stake work environment.
    • Distribute work assignments to maintenance teams with dissimilar occupations (e.g. maintenance workers, engineering equipment operators, dam equipment repairman, and electricians).

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • This position requires a valid state driver's license prior to employment.
    • This position requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License within 180 days of employment.
    • This position requires initial and annual physical exams.
    • This is a Testing Designated Position subject to initial and annual drug tests.
    • This postion requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supplied by the employer.
    • This position may require evening, weekend, and overtime shift work.
    • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or emergencies the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

    Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Elements): Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator Leader without more than normal supervision. Engineering Equipment Operation Screen out: Operate and maintain heavy equipment to include: bulldozers, loaders, dump trucks, excavators, backhoes, etc. Interpret an operator's manual to determine maintenance requirements. Leader Screen out: Implement safety procedures, including ensuring staff have adequate Personal Protective Equipment, in a field working environment. Perform work under formal work orders such as Federal Employee Management (FEM). - Failure to meet these Screen out Elements will result in an ineligible rating.

    • Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order)
    • Physical Effort: Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. The work requires frequent standing, bending, crouching, kneeling and climbing. Frequently lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally items weighing more with assistance of material lifting devices or other workers.
    • Working Conditions: Work is performed in both the field and shops. Incumbent is exposed to extreme heat and cold, noisy, dirty, and dusty areas, uneven ground, and insect and reptile stings or bites. There is danger of drowning when working on flood control structures. Is exposed to inadequately heated areas, as well as, dirty, greasy, fumed, and noisy areas. Possibility exists for injury from dropped parts, slipping tools or slipping from work positions. Work inside is usually performed on concrete floors, which is fatigue producing from long periods of standing and stooping. Incumbent is exposed to disagreeable fumes from exhaust of engines, minor cuts and bruises from working in close places and hazards of moving vehicles, equipment, machinery, swinging loads, overturning, and breakage of cables. Subject to bruises, broken bones, and strained back.
