PURPOSE 

 

This position is responsible for planning and supervising the future as well as the daily building maintenance and engineering activities.  This includes building preventative maintenance activities, customer work requests, project work in support of the site (Global Offices, R&D and Engineering) programs and assisting other sites with projects as required. Other responsibilities include temporary and contracted staffing management and support, employee development, maintenance purchasing and Environmental, Health and Safety support. The incumbent is in direct contact with internal customers from all groups and maintenance personnel from all sites.

This role is a key enabler in the delivery of the long-term strategy of the technology business.  The facility supports our overall global strategy and consists of key areas of infrastructure that enables our associates to do their jobs to the best of their ability.  This position will lead a diverse set of skilled contractors in the overall development, service and daily running conditions of the site.  This position will also be responsible for maintaining and enhancing safety and GMP practices are followed across the site supporting the Global Environmental Safety Health (ESH) Team in driving a culture of safety.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

FOSTER ENGAGEMENT AND ASSOCIATE DEVELOPMENT - Ensure each direct report has well-articulated and meaningful objective and development plans.  Support associate engagement by actively contributing to engagement follow-up action plans.  Continue development of technician associates to enhance their capabilities including (machining and fabrication; machine assembly, installation, debug and qualification; feedback to design; training and technology transfer).

ENSURE SAFE PRACTICES AND NUTURE CULTURE OF SAFETY - Collaboratively work with EHS staff and team members to verify appropriate safe practices and procedures are in place and practiced.  Aggressively close any gaps that exist relatively to meeting best-in-class safety on campus..

DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT HIGH-EFFICIENCY WORK PROCESSES FOR TECHNICAL GROUP - Develop work processes, schedule tracking, systems and applications to ensure projects and day-to-day operations are completed in a timely and efficient manner.  Work with engineering, contractors and other functional groups to manage workload and resources and forecast project timing accordingly.

MANAGE EXTERNAL PARTNERS - Schedule and track deliverables from external partners such as machining, fabrication, coating, heat treatment, commercial items, etc.  Ensure external work is scheduled, tracked and managed to optimize overall program KPI's (including schedule, cost, and resources).
 

DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY, RECOMMENDATIONS AND IMPACT

 

  • WORK PROCESS OPTIMIZATION - Development of work process to optimize shop and technician service functions.
  • WORKING WITH CONTRACTING FIRMS - Ability to design and implement a lean organization for overall site support through contract agencies for the long term success of the site.
  • PEOPLE LEADER - Lead the development and engagement of technician resources.  Ensure each associate has a robust and meaningful development plan and follows through on development objectives.
  • FOSTER COLLABORATION AND INNOVATION - Work closely with engineering, manufacturing operations and other functions to ensure technician resources are leveraged to improve efficiency of overall technology deployment programs.  Make recommendations and implement strategies to enhance the contribution of technician associates.


QUALIFICATIONS
 

Education/Training

Minimum:  BS degree in electrical or mechanical engineering

Preferred:  Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent

 

Experience/Requirements

Minimum:
• 10+ years of work experience in Engineering or Research & Development in a Food or Consumer Products manufacturing facility; 7+ years supervisory and project management in site management.
• Good working knowledge of building systems including but not limited to HVAC, boilers, compressed air systems and electrical distribution.

• Strong people leadership, influence and interpersonal skills.

• Good project management and organizational skills to efficiently complete electrical/mechanical engineering project.
• Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
 

Preferred:  
• Develop work processes, systems and capabilities for overall site and facility development.
• Experience in the use of TPM, Lean, Six Sigma and RCA methodologies.
• Implement GMP environment and protocols.
