Medical Technologist Blood Bank SIGN-ON BONUS AVAILABLE: 5,000 with Two (2) Year Commitment Position Summary: The Blood Bank Technologist performs critical functions to assist the department in meeting the blood requirements of patients. Works in accordance with the department's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to perform testing and provide blood products to meet patient needs. Performs testing independently and is able to work as a team member in a busy laboratory environment. Primary Responsibilities: * Performs patient and unit testing, prepares Prepare blood or blood products for patient use and reports to Supervisor on a timely basis related to technical and professional problems. * Orders blood products according to usage and projected need. * Oversees timely filling of all transfusion requests. * Maintains adequate amounts of lab supplies and initiates steps to increase or decrease quantities as necessary. Removes expired blood products on a timely basis with proper record keeping. * Performs periodic quality control checks on equipment. Reviews daily quality control performed by others on items including freezers, refrigerators, centrifuges, incubators, donor room equipment, worksheets, and computer review. * Document and report test data accurately and cognitively. * Communicate with all levels of management and patients in a respectful manner. * Assist in the departmental orientation of new employees. * Assume responsibility for the department/section/shift in the absence of the supervisor. * Expected to accommodate scheduling requirements. Blood Bank Laboratory Details: * Tango Optimo instrument in use * Laboratory Information system is Sunquest * Common testing performed includes but is not limited to: ABO, Rh, antibody screen, crossmatch, antigen typing, antibody ID. * The blood bank issues more than 50 units a day and receives approximately 75 specimens per day. The transfusion service primarily supports an active surgical service as well as an oncology clinic. Minimum Qualifications: * Minimum of three (3) years experience in Blood Bank Laboratory required * Must meet minimum experience requirements to be eligible for the sign-on bonus. * Associate's Degree in Medical Technology required, Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology is strongly preferred * Florida license as a Medical Technologist in Blood Bank required * Licensure in Hematology, Chemistry and Serology desired One Team.
