About the Job


Position Overview

The School of Kinesiology, College of Education and Human Development, University of Minnesota is seeking an outstanding candidate for a non-tenure-track Teaching Specialist (Academic Professional) position in Kinesiology. Our academic programs include approximately 3 sections of KIN 3001: Lifetime Health & Wellness (3 credits each) enrolling about 60 students per section. This is a one-semester opportunity. Job Responsibilities

Teaching (75%):

  • Teach core courses in the undergraduate programs (three courses per semester, 9 credits)
  • Develop syllabus and course content
  • Prepare course materials
  • Respond to student inquiries and meet with students
  • Fulfill the learning objectives of the courses
  • Grade student materials such as exams, papers and final projects, and provide effective feedback
  • Supervise and mentor graduate teaching assistants assigned to the course

Qualifications


Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Kinesiology or closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated teaching experience and effectiveness in higher education
  • Demonstrated strengths in oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to high-quality teaching, mentoring, and service to students, colleagues, and the university
  • Ability to develop and deliver courses in ways that effectively account for a variety of diverse backgrounds, communities, identities, and abilities


Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Kinesiology or a closely related discipline
  • Experience in mentoring or advising of undergraduate or graduate students

The School of Kinesiology focuses on the biological, physiological, developmental, social, and behavioral bases of physical activity and human movement. The School's academic degree programs prepare students for a variety of professional opportunities in both public and private sectors that include teaching, research, health promotion, rehabilitation, medicine, coaching, sport management and services related to physical activity and fitness in settings that include schools, colleges and universities, public and private agencies, clinical environments, government, business and the sports industry.
