About the Job


Position Overview
The Communications Intern supports ICI's Marketing and Communications team in developing and posting content on social media channels, including Facebook X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube. This individual will work with ICI's graphic designers to create graphics, edit photos, and develop visual content that supports various ICI projects. The Communications Intern will assist ICI's media producer in creating video and audio content, which may include recording videos and podcasts and serving as on-camera talent for training programs. This individual will also review content and provide feedback regarding readability and accessibility. All members of the Marketing and Communications team will provide mentoring of various aspects of communications. Beyond communications and marketing content, the Communications Intern will support various ICI programs and projects by providing lived experience perspective on disability and educational issues.

This position is based on campus. Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by your manager. All UMN employees are expected to follow applicable public health and safety procedures.

Job Responsibilities

Support 60%

  • Support various ICI projects by providing lived experience perspective on disability and educational issues.

Coordinate 30%

  • Work with graphic designers in creating visual content for social media channels.

Manage 5%

  • Participate in weekly communications team meetings and monthly Self-Advocate Action committee meetings to help make ICI content more accessible to audience members with disabilities.

Direct 5%

  • Serve as on-camera talent for video training programs. This will include reading from a teleprompter.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • Experience creating content for social media.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advocating for an inclusive environment for all backgrounds and identities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lived experience with disability.
  • Experience navigating post-secondary education.
