The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs seeks to protect, preserve, and enhance the Commonwealth's environmental resources while ensuring and promoting a clean energy future for the state's residents. Through the stewardship of open space, protection of environmental resources, and enhancement of clean energy, the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs works tirelessly to make Massachusetts a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.

Who We Are: The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Finance Team is responsible for oversight of executive office environment, energy, climate, and environmental justice budgets as well as coordination with finance teams of the six energy and environmental affairs agencies. The Finance Internship offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to state financial management from the perspective of energy and environmental affairs policy.

Massachusetts was the first state in the nation to combine energy and environmental agencies under one Cabinet secretary. The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EOEEA) serves Commonwealth residents interested in outdoor recreational activities, clean energy solutions and those who work with animals and livestock. Equally, EOEEA works with energy consumers, power companies, clean energy providers and farmers to delicately balance the interaction with environmental protection laws and regulations while being a cornerstone for our economic prosperity.

Job Opening: The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs seeks applicants for a Finance Intern who will perform duties in the following areas:

The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Finance Team is responsible for oversight of executive office environment, energy, climate, and environmental justice budgets as well as coordination with finance teams of the six energy and environmental affairs agencies. The Finance Internship offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to state financial management from the perspective of energy and environmental affairs policy.

  • State Finance processes and procedures, including on operating, capital, trust, and federal funding sources and on revenue sources
  • Legislative budget cycle, including tracking and coordination of the fiscal year (FY) 2025 operating budget
  • Federal fundings finance tracking, coordination on grant funding applications
  • Accounting, including billing, invoice payment processing, IT invoicing, transaction review, report development and review, and data entry
  • Development of presentation materials for leadership, relating to budget and program financial management
  • Special projects related to financial management of environment, energy, climate, and environmental justice policies

Position shall work two days per week, to be negotiated during candidate selection and with the potential for optional and ad-hoc additional hours. Intern shall be available in-person on Tuesdays for at 100 Cambridge St, Boston MA, and remote the remainder of the internship hours.
