Job Description

JOB OBJECTIVE: Oversee all financial reporting and accounting activities. Develop and implement accounting and financial policies and procedures to ensure long-term financial health and streamlined processes. Establish and maintain a strong internal control environment. Provide supervision and leadership for accounting and contracts management personnel. Serve as a member of the Usona Management Team.


CORE DUTIES:


1. Oversee day-to-day accounting, including accounts receivable/payable, prepaids and accruals, fixed assets, payroll, grants, inventory, and cash management. Ensure each of the transaction processes have written documentation for cross-training and back-up purposes and are continuously evolving to be more streamlined and automated using AI.


2. Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports, such as income statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements. Utilize a closing checklist to document that all steps have been completed and segregation of duties has been achieved.

3. Support the Strategic Partnerships team with the financial content of proposals for large donors and advise and support on commitments made for reporting for Grants and Donations. Assist with the financial requirements of reports required by large donors.


4. Develop and maintain accounting and financial policies and procedures which include strong internal controls.


5. Prepare monthly rolling cash forecasts for the next 2-3 years by quarter.


6. Analyze accounting and financial data to identify potential areas of cost savings or improvement.


7. Manage relationships and activities with banks and external auditors.


8. Review insurance coverage on an annual basis with the insurance broker and ensure coverage reflects the changing risks of the operations.


9. Provide accounting and financial advice and support to the Executive Director and other departments. Be recognized as the Finance and Accounting Business Partner and have involvement where financial/accounting expertise will provide for savings to the organization.


10. Provide leadership, coaching, guidance and support to the Accountant and Contracts Manager.


11. Set professional development plans to assist employees in reaching their full potential through the development and performance management processes.

14. Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our operations.


KEY QUALIFICATIONS:


1. Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.


2. At least 7 years of corporate or nonprofit accounting experience.


3. Minimum of 3 years' experience in performing financial analysis and demonstrated proficiency in spreadsheet applications.


4. Experience in accounting for inventory


5. Excellent knowledge of accounting principles, regulations, and financial reporting standards.


6. Experience with forecasting and financial analysis.


7. Proven leadership abilities to coach, mentor and develop team members.


8. Ability to adapt to changing priorities.


9. Proficiency in using accounting software.


10. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


11. High level of accuracy and attention to detail.


12. Excellent communication skills.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


1. Advanced degree in Accounting or Finance.


2. Nonprofit accounting experience.


3. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent certification.


4. Previous experience in a drug development company.


5. Proficient in QuickBooks,


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


1. Ability to use a computer/Microsoft Office application.


2. Ability to remain stationary for several hours at a time.
