Departmental Overview

The Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) is a partnership between the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, San Francisco. The IGI envisions a world in which genome-engineering innovations benefit humanity and are accessible to all. The Institute's mission is to accelerate genome discovery and translation of resulting technologies in order to ethically and equitably improve human health and sustainable agriculture. Combining the fundamental research expertise and the biomedical talent at UCB and UCSF, the IGI focuses on unraveling the mechanisms underlying CRISPR-based genome editing and applying this technology to cure disease, ensure food sustainability, and provide additional benefits for current and future generations.

Responsibilities

• Manage human cell engineering projects aimed at understanding the role of translation initiation factors in regulating translation.
• Use CRISPR/Cas9 methods for cell engineering and assess the impact of the genome editing on gene regulation.

TCell Culture:

• Manage CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing and lentiviral transduction of human cells and maintenance of human cell lines.
• Use a wide variety of standard repetitive laboratory procedures including molecular and cell biology methods.

RNA and Protein Biochemistry:

• Prepare mRNAs for in vitro and cell-based experiments, western blots and immunoprecipitations.
• Prepare in vitro translation extracts from human cells.
• Clone and prepare of lentiviral transduction vectors.
• Maintain supplies for tissue culture facilities in the lab.

Required Qualifications

• Prior lab experience in genome editing field.
• Experience in lab organization and communication.

Education/Training:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent international degree in Molecular and Cell Biology or related fields and/or equivalent experience/training.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.75 (step 1.0) - $30.72 (step 9.0).

• This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
• This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly.
