The Opportunity

As the Statutory Planning Officer, you’ll implement and coordinate planning of the Shire in accordance with Council’s Planning Scheme and relevant legislation.

You’ll take on:

  • Reporting on a range of applications for planning permission for use, development and subdivision of land
  • Assessing development applications and processing Plans of Subdivision in accordance with the Subdivisions Act 1988
  • Undertaking mediation and/or consultation to educate or resolve disputes as appropriate
  • Preparing submissions and presenting cases for enforcement at VCAT
  • Inspecting sites of alleged contravention of the Planning Scheme and collecting evidence
  • Assisting with the development of policies, strategies, studies and undertaking planning scheme amendments

This is a permanent, full time opportunity with remote working available however you must be able to visit the Bairnsdale office 1-2 days per month.

  • Relevant qualifications and experience, including knowledge of current planning policies and legislation.
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff, public, consultants and statutory authorities.
  • Good knowledge of and the ability to interpret, the various applicable Acts and Regulations relating to Council Planning matters.
  • Ability to investigate, prepare and complete reports on a wide range of planning matters, and make recommendations to management and Council.
  • Capacity to make independent and unassisted decisions.
  • Ability to produce work, which is timely, accurate and to a high professional standard.
  • Ability to work with and guide others in a multi-disciplinary team and be adaptable to change.

If successful, you will need to undertake a police check. You must also be legally entitled to work in Australia.
