What Your Job Will Be Like:

The Securing Top Academic Research Talent at Historically Black Colleges & Universities (START HBCU) Institute is designed to provide collaborations with Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and to develop an intentional talent pipeline for minority students in various Business fields. We are interested in identifying candidates from HBCUs and growing collaboration opportunities between HBCUs and Sandia. A key part of this is through granting summer internships to graduate students to work at Sandia National Laboratories. The START HBCU Institute will hire interns into several critical business functions for Summer 2024.

Are you interested in learning how inventions and scientific research are transformed into new products and services that benefit society? Then, you will want to apply for this Technology Transfer Internship. We are seeking Business, STEM, and Law graduate level students for a Summer Technology Transfer Internship focused on semiconductor and microelectronics technology to gain hands-on experience with technology transfer at a national lab.

Program highlights include:

  • Gaining tech transfer skills in Intellectual Property, Licensing, Market Analysis, and more
  • Learning about semiconductor and microelectronics technologies
  • Developing commercialization and start-up plans
  • Conducting market research, and gathering and analyzing information

Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Earned bachelor's degree
  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited related graduate program
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • U.S. citizenship

Additional requirements:

  • Currently attending a Historically Black College or University () during the Spring term prior to this summer.

About Our Team:

The Business Development (BD) & Data Analysis, Visualization and Communications (DAV-C) Departments (1981) is responsible for business development support to Sandia's program management centers and program portfolios. BD brings together technical and program development related functions to ensure mission success. Staff members assist in strategy development, discovery of sponsor/customer requirements, technology road mapping, stakeholder/partner engagement, and communicating Sandia's unique capabilities relative to national security needs. The department also provides data analysis and visual communications to support leadership decision making, streamline business processes, enhance technology usability and facilitate internal and external collaborations.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
