Job Description

Role:

Primary duties are to maintain the operational readiness of enterprise database systems and implement standard enhancement change requests as needed. Responsible for supporting database systems which includes but is not limited to monitoring, troubleshooting, researching, analyzing, developing, validation, patching/upgrading, and overall lifecycle management. Perform database administration duties including creating new databases to support Credit Union efforts, establishing recovery solutions, regular system performance evaluations, and other required maintenance. Responsible for the accuracy, availability, and optimization of enterprise data. Supports business units by analyzing technical requirements, evaluating fulfillment options, making recommendations in alignment with corporate standards as well as industry best practices and completing the technical implementation. Maintains a high level of responsiveness ensuring users and business units are supported in a timely fashion. Establishes and maintains technical subject matter expertise as dictated by the needs of the department and credit union.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Manages and maintains enterprise databases and data warehouse. Ensuring that databases are adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of memory loss.

Fulfills approved enhancement requests in accordance with established SLA's and procedures. Suggest changes and improvements for database maintenance or protection.

Remediates technical issues submitted to the team and monitors the team ticket queue to ensure a timely response and adherence to established SLA's.

Implements basic systems enhancements and integrations to increase overall functionality, efficiency, and reliability.

Maintains inventory of all data and database systems to include vendor SLA's, lifecycle details, licensing allocation, technical dependencies, and any relevant contact information. Reporting on metrics regarding usage and performance.

Interfaces with vendors as needed to ensure appropriate service levels are maintained.

Documents support processes, technical designs, user guides, changes, and fix actions.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned in a secure and compliant manner.

Performance Measurements:

  1. Ensures enterprise databases and data warehouse are operating in accordance with industry best practices.
  2. Designing databases with both front-end and back-end users in mind.
  3. Meets department standards for support whenever technical issues occur. Provides management updates regarding key production impacting issues in a timely manner.
  4. Ensures database systems are being used in a reliable and secure manner. Facilitates the timely execution of standard maintenance such as patches, updates, and upgrades.
  5. Communicates impactful changes appropriately and ensures any modifications have been tested before they are put into production, working with training as needed to ensure users are prepared.
  6. Interprets requirements into database design by defining and analyzing system problems, performance issues, setup options, and validation standards. Analyzes the overall efficiency of the credit union's data warehouse and aligns technical needs with system capabilities.
  7. Communicates effectively with partners at all levels to understand supported functions and business needs. Translates complex technical concepts into common language for non-technicians and creates comprehensive but easy to understand validation plans.
  8. Periodically perform and implement changes to enhance query performance including indexing, partitioning, and simplifying complex datasets. Utilize automation software to deliver extracts and replace manual data entry.
  9. Meets deadlines for completion of all assigned tasks and provides useful input with respect to database systems operation. Build interfaces for accommodating new sources/types of data.
  10. Develop simple ETL solutions for populating data into a warehouse for optimized Data Mining. Develop special reports upon request and documents procedures for data managements processes.
  11. Coordinates with internal partners and vendors as needed to remediate issues and complete enhancements. Maintains appropriate relationships with outside vendors and suppliers.
  12. Provides operational support services on-site as well as remote during normal business hours and on-call as dictated by the needs of the department.
  13. Continually improves skill set by researching new technology, techniques, and best practices. Share knowledge and experience with other team members.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Two years as a Database Administrator or equivalent experience. One year of experience with financial industry data sets and systems including servers, storage, virtual technologies, backup appliances, and monitoring tools. Knowledge of Credit Union operations and technology stack preferred. ARCU, SQL, and Power BI expertise as well as one or more relevant database administration certifications. ETL and 'Low code' development (Python, PowerShell, Windows Batch) experience preferred. Proven experience may be acceptable in lieu of listed experience.

Education: (1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g. information technology certifications in lieu of a degree). Proven experience may be acceptable in lieu of listed education.

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Leading, motivating, influencing, and training others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and sell ideas or services to others. The ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional team members is a must.

Other Skills: Exceptional customer service skills. Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Capable of working under pressure. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work and travel independently.

Physical Requirements: This role requires sitting at a computer viewing a digital display and typing for most of the day.

Work Environment: This job operates primarily in an office setting and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and phones. It requires the ability to actively participate in conference calls and meetings with other credit union team members and vendors. Normal expected work hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. CST but work after normal work hours (including weekends) may be required. Must adhere to safety rules and regulations.
