Your Role With Us:

  • Assesses patients and alerts physicians to potential life-threatening situations. Recognizes critical diagnostic data and alerts the physician in a timely fashion. Recognizes changes in patient condition and reports appropriately.
  • Obtains a brief history on all patients according to departmental standards. Assesses and documents patient's vital signs and other pertinent information upon admission. Reassesses patient's condition following therapeutic intervention.
  • Determines priorities of care and intervenes in those cases falling outside the parameters of normal clinic protocol (e.g. isolating and obtaining physician for suspicious rashes, prioritizing patients potentially requiring transfer to a higher level of care.
  • Coordinates the execution of all physician orders. Signs off orders correctly, and documents adequately. Anticipates the need for selected diagnostic tests and initiates testing according to protocols.
  • Recognizes variations in patient flow, and adjusts work effort to reflect the needs of the department. Communicates with co-workers to facilitate continuity of care and maintenance of steady patient progress through the department.
  • Ensures adequate discharge instructions are given to each patient, that family members are included in discharge instructions if available, that patients are referred for future care appropriately, and the community resource information is available to patients.
  • Performs waived laboratory testing procedures according to protocols; demonstrates continued competency in patient testing, quality control and proficiency testing.
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge and expertise with regard to medication safety/security and administration within scope of practice and appropriate clinic protocols.
  • Demonstrates competency in all areas of clinical care encompassed within the clinic setting.
  • Accurately documents patient visits, telephone calls, refill requests and other encounters in Epic Ambulatory, ensuring others are able to follow events with certainty.
  • Accurately assigns facility charges on patient encounters; Other duties as assigned.

    Background/Expertise:

    • Nationally recognized Certified Medical Assistant certification required.
    • Basic Life Support certification required.
    • Experience in either an urgent care facility or family practice office preferred.
    • Communications skills enabling adequate information flow in a pleasant manner, not only with co-workers and patients, but also with telephone, fax and computer communication.
    • Competency in the performance of patient care skills; Organizational skills; Interpersonal skills; Adequate visual and hearing ability to read and perform clinical procedures safely.
    • Manual dexterity adequate to perform skills and procedures required for safe patient care.
    • Ability to safely lift, pull, and turn a minimum of 50lbs. unassisted and over 100lbs. with assistance.
