Workshop/Engineering Manager - Permanent Role - based in Portsmouth.
V3 are working on behalf of a family run engineering business based in central Portsmouth.
The role will be of managerial level with a heavy requirement of CAD being able to produce working drawings for welder fabricators to work from but also to be able to see a project through from start to finish.
We are looking for a Workshop Manager to oversee the busy workshop as well as manage large projects from the initial tendering and quoting stage to overseeing the whole project from start to finish.
The workshop manager will supervise jobs for the welders/fabricators/machinists and arrange the staff to site to complete the work. This would involve quotations, drawings, purchase ordering, overseeing jobs in progress and quality inspection. The manager would also maintain levels of the stock - metal and welding consumables, PPE, Machine/equipment maintenance and general health and safety.
They would have the ability to read, understand and break down engineering drawings.
Ideally, they would have previous experience in overseeing large projects from the initial tendering and quoting stage, to design consultation and managing the whole project from start to finish. These have been mainly marine projects but structural steel too.
Estimating and quoting for work
Answering customer enquiries by phone, email, and face to face
All aspects of managing workshop and site works from overseeing jobs, purchase ordering, liaising with suppliers, subcontractors & site contacts, machine maintenance, H&S, inspection of work.
Proficient with ISO 9001:2015 quality management system and BS EN 1090.
Experience of working to high health and safety standards (CHAS, ConstructionLine, SafeContractor)
IT competence (excel, word, data entry, outlook as a basic. Project manager and CAD advantageous)
Strong leadership
Able to multitask
Attend meetings with high profile clients
Proactive and driven individual
Sourcing of new work/projects and tendering process
Must hold valid driving licence

Other advantageous skills:
Welding inspection/competence or RWC qual.
SMSTS qualification
Project Management experience
Crane and Forklift operator
