Overview









The Academic and Career Advisor provides support and guidance throughout a student's lifecycle to ensure students are positioned for success in all facets of their academic journey. The Academic and Career Advisor will work with students assigned to them from before the first day of class to graduation and beyond, providing academic and career advising. This position is responsible for helping students secure employment, navigate academic requirements, creating a sense of campus community through events and activities, and addressing concerns that may impact a student's ability to persist.















Responsibilities









    Plans and coordinates new student orientation and registration in collaboration with other support departments and Admissions to ensure students are informed and prepared to begin their academic pursuits. Collects any missing documents and fully executes enrollment agreements as needed.
  • Partners closely with the Home Office in preparation for each start to ensure all required Admissions documents are on file and audited.
  • Instills a sense of campus community through student activities, interactions, and support activities, including acclimation to the blended learning environment and the post-secondary setting in general.
  • Assists with identifying local employment opportunities, populating job boards, creating resumes, and coordinating on campus events to support active students in their job search endeavors.
  • Monitors grades and attendance to ensure that students are maintaining satisfactory progress, and academically advises students who fail for either academic or attendance reasons in accordance with all applicable regulations and policies.
  • Provides academic and personal advising to students who need assistance and refers to students to other resources when appropriate. Creates and maintains community resource list.
  • Ensures active students are prepared for industry employment by providing mock interview opportunities, resume workshops, career counseling sessions, career development courses, and job search techniques.
  • Plans and coordinates career fairs, employer visits, MSAT expos, virtual employer sessions, and other employment events in order to provide opportunities for students to connect with employers and understand the variety of entry-level positions available to them in the industry.
  • Promotes and introduces students to student and manufacturer-paid MSATs by delivering informational presentations to students throughout their program, providing guidance and direction regarding career opportunities while presenting the value proposition.
  • Ensures strong employment rates for active students and graduates by continually following up with unemployed students/graduates through a variety of different touch points including one-on-one meetings, classroom surveys, classroom presentations, phone calls, text message and/or social media contacts, as well as utilizing the EDGE team to market students to employers who may not have job postings on the job board.
  • Completes paperwork for student withdrawals, leaves of absences, double coursing, etc. and processes student changes in student database, following established SLAs.
  • Partners with Education Department to address student issues i.e., discipline, academic, personal, etc.
  • Assists with the preparation of accommodation plans following UTI's ADA/504 policy (as assigned).
  • Assists with the Veteran's Benefits process (as assigned).
  • Serves as a liaison with housing providers, ensures students housing needs are met and housing status codes are updated, mediates roommate conflicts, supports all housing functions as needed (as assigned)
  • Ensures ACCSC standards as well as state guidelines, where applicable, are met by accurately collecting and recording students' and graduates' employment records.
  • Partners with the Home Office centralized team when needed on scheduling, record maintenance, employment verification, and other duties as business needs dictate.
  • Other duties as assigned.














Qualifications









Education / Experience

  • 4 yr degree in related field preferred but not required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in education field preferred but not required

  • Ability to advise and guide adult students in academic and life-skill matters
  • Computer skills required (i.e., Word, Excel)
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Ability to shift priorities quickly and effectively
  • Demonstrate learning agility and maintain a positive attitude

Abilities

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 5 pounds 5% or less of the workday
  • Must be able stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 5% or less of the workday
  • Must be able to talk, see, hear, concentrate, think, learn, and reason for all of the workday
  • Must be able to sit and walk or otherwise move around for prolonged periods throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to use a keyboard and do manual tasks for prolonged periods throughout the workday.
  • Available flexible hours and some Saturdays

Work Environment

  • Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
