Research Physical Therapist



The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh, which is ranked number 8 in the US News and World Report, is currently recruiting a research physical therapist. The Department is housed in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS), one of the six Schools of Health Sciences. We offer an entry-level DPT degree, and post-professional programs leading to a Master of Science in Physical Therapy, PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences, and dual DPT-PhD in Bioengineering degrees as well as post-graduate certificates. The DPT degree is delivered in two formats: residential and hybrid.

The Research Physical Therapist will prepare grant materials, communication/correspondence with grant and research personnel, implement intervention protocols, implement evaluation protocols, assess patient safety and daily clinic operations, and teach/present.

Qualified candidates should possess:

  • Master or Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy
  • At least two years of clinical experience
  • Current, full, active and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in the State of Pennsylvania
  • Current CPR certification

Job Summary

Creates and implements individually designed programs of physical therapy through evaluations, assessments, and testing in clinical or research setting to meet goals. Modifies plans upon patient response and instructs on at-home treatments. Consults with physicians and other staff regarding determination of physical therapy treatment. Maintains appropriate records of client treatment and maintains confidentiality and all other applicable regulations.


Essential Functions

This position was created for the purpose of assisting with a new research grant. This includes, but is not limited to, preparation of grant materials, communication/correspondence with grant and research personnel, implementation of intervention protocols, implementation of evaluation protocols, assessment of patient safety, daily clinic operations, and teaching/presenting.


Physical Effort

Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Must be proficient with MS Office Suite.
