Job Description

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

  • Communicate effectively with all Sparrow Rehab Caregivers, customers, community at large in a manner that supports the mission, goals and objectives of the Sparrow Health System.
  • Empower Rehab front line Caregivers by delegating clear responsibility, facilitating an atmosphere promoting high performance, teamwork and continued improvement in order to provide cost-effective high-quality care to the people of Mid-Michigan
  • Participate in the annual performance review process for span of control
  • Assist with recruitment, orientation, training, performance appraisal, disciplinary action as needed of Rehab Caregivers and students.
  • Complete payroll data entry and verification. Ensure that Caregivers are in compliance with health system requirements such as TB testing, BLS, professional licensure and annual competencies.
  • Participate in the development of the departmental operating and financial plans, ensuring compliance with established Departmental standards
  • Participate in program planning and development.
  • Participate in quality improvement program and validation of documentation requirements.
  • Ensure that staffing is adequate to meet the needs of patient flow.
  • Validate compliance with regulatory standards such as JC, OSHA, and State of Michigan
  • Cooperate with support staff and other health system departments to maximize the efficiency of non-clinical services such as the registering, scheduling and billing of our patients.
  • Seek ways to continually improve the value of our services and maximize our customers rehab potential by actively participating in activities such as inservices, staff meetings, team meetings, continuing education courses and patient conferences.
  • Maximize customer satisfaction by treating our customers with respect and responding to their needs in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner. Creates a learning environment that is open and respectful and encourages the sharing of expertise to promote the benefits of health outcomes.
  • Responsible for oversight of scheduling, managing vacation requests and subsequent payroll responsibilities.
  • Ensure the sharing and demonstration of evidence-based practice through active discussions, policies and procedures and standards of practice.
  • Ensures compliance with Hospital, State, Federal and all other regulatory agencies in reference to patient care activities and physical environment.
  • Assist with analysis of objective measurement outcomes and National Benchmarks to drive continuous performance improvement.
  • Ensures two-way communication of information with Team Members and Stakeholders through staff meetings, task force meetings, Team Conferences, and Family Meetings, etc.
  • Assist with coordination of orientation, education, credentialing, and continued professional development of Caregivers and assist with maintenance of records.
  • Monitors Caregiver performance, providing coaching, recognition, counselling and avenues for improvement as needed.
  • Empowers Caregivers by delegating clear responsibility, accountability and authority to meet mutually agreed upon expectations.
  • Assists with the communication of the shared mission, vision and values of the organization to all Rehabilitation Caregivers and Rehab Stakeholders.
  • Assists with the assessment of the impact of, and plan strategies to address, such issues as: (1) ethnic, cultural and diversity changes in the population (2) political and social influences (3) financial and economic issues (4) the aging of society and demographic trends (5) ethical issues related to health
  • Helps to promote community advocacy and education through support groups, active memberships to professional organizations, and Health System promotional activities.
  • Assist with patient rounding and follow up on identified issues.
  • If patient volumes exceed available staffing, and alternative staffing options have been exhausted, may assume direct patient care within the scope of current therapy licensure.

Job Requirements General Requirements * Demonstrates knowledge and maintains and respects patient right to privacy by following the HIPAA Privacy and Security policies and procedures. * Adheres to ICARE values and standards of behavior (Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence). * Role model behaviors that value the diversity of our associates, patients and customers and supports creating an environment that is inclusive, welcoming and respectful. * Adheres to established best practices (i.e. Rounding, Thank You Notes, AIDET, etc.). * Demonstrates commitment to safety by establishing an environment in which safety issues are promptly reported and appropriate actions are taken. Work Experience * Minimum 5 years' experience in a licensed field of physical, occupational or speech therapy * Minimum 1-3 years in a leadership capacity. Preferred. Education * Graduate from an accredited program in physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech/language pathology. * Michigan physical therapy licensure or Michigan occupational therapy licensure with NBCOT registration or Michigan speech therapy licensure with ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competency in speech/language pathology. Specialized Knowledge and Skills * Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills. * Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills. * Demonstrates excellent organizational skills. * Minimum 1-3 years in a leadership capacity. Preferred.
