Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all work is performed in a safe, professional, and conscientious manner.
  • Provide direct supervision to the plant's Chief Mechanic, and Chief Electrician and ensure alignment of production, maintenance, and repair priorities while ensuring safe operations.
  • Work directly with the Plant Manager for hiring, training, developing policies, leveraging recognition programs, and supporting the positive progressive discipline policy as required.
  • Develop, implement, and administer procedures for personnel administration including but not limited to payroll approvals, vacation schedules and overtime equalization.
  • Direct and participate in physical on-site trouble-shooting, repairs or maintenance activities including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic control systems. Must be available 24/7 in general to respond to emergencies or plant related issues, in person or via phone.
  • Perform "hands-on" operations and/or maintenance related functions in unusual situations, if required and appropriate.
  • Assist Plant Manager in developing and implementing an employee continuous improvement culture that positively impacts safety, labor productivity, plant utilization, and expense.
  • Assist Plant Manager in developing the annual O&M budget based on equipment reliability data and project planning.
  • Generate and periodically update an annual Gantt Chart outlining the planned work schedule for the upcoming year.
  • Develop long term maintenance, repair, and upgrade plans for major projects in order to direct priorities, production schedules, and procurement of materials.
  • Participate in annual and long range planning of plant KPIs and goals that align with corporate directives and drive specific projects.
  • Review data looking for trends, correlations, and any information that could result in a better, more efficient operation and equipment reliability. Develop and implement continuous improvement projects based on the data analysis.
  • Work with Chief Maintenance Leaders to specify, procure, and lead installation of equipment for new projects or equipment and process improvements.
  • Continuously improve the design of all conveyor systems in the plant for efficient and longer operation, implementing innovative solutions such as screw coatings, motor modifications, geometry changes, and PMs.
  • Ensure compliance with Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements in accordance with Federal, State and Local laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate process that delivers short term and long term planning and scheduling activities for maintenance.
  • Coordinate with Chief Leaders to contract vendors, set up new vendors, order parts and supplies, and monitor lead times to ensure deliveries of these materials meet production demands.
  • Work with Plant Manager to complete Policy Deployment Goals and Personnel Development Plans that align with Corporate Objectives. Monitor resulting plant KPIs and develop action plans to meet the plant's objectives.
  • Train workforce in 5S (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain) principles to ensure that all work areas are clean, safe and organized for workers.
  • Champion the use of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and ensure that Chief Maintenance Leaders maintain maintenance and repair records and utilize the system to it's potential. Ensure accurate data entry to the CMMS. Continuously improve spare parts inventory management via CMMS.
  • Coordinate weekly scheduling and planning processes for maintenance and operations and effectively communicate objectives and expectations.
  • Implement the latest technologies in predictive and preventive maintenance to ensure the best possible plant equipment maintenance. Ensure all maintenance activities associated with regulatory compliance such as OSHA or code required inspections are performed in a timely manner.
  • Working with the Plant Manager and corporate personnel, implement and maintain Asset Management policies and practices. Manage the overall maintenance plan for the plant and coordinate these activities in order to meet customer demands.
  • Complete OSHA 30 within the first six months and all other training as assigned or required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Established track record of managing all aspects of plant operations and maintenance.
  • Proven track record of successful budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management.
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate critical problem solving skill.
  • Clearly demonstrates well-developed interpersonal and leadership traits with the ability to work effectively in a small plant environment.
  • Possesses strong action orientation and confidence in motivating teams, while adhering to high level of personal ethics and is driven by professional excellence.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel including executive management, customers, local authorities, community organizations and regulatory agencies.
  • Above average computer proficiency.

Education/Experiences:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering or related degree. Related work experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Operations/ Maintenance management experience in industrial, chemical process manufacturing environment.
  • Inclination toward Operational Excellence with experience in Lean, Six Sigma, 5S and other organizational leadership principals highly desired.
