Job Summary

The Identity and Access Management Manager will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of the university's identity and access management systems. This role involves ensuring the security, privacy, and efficient access to digital resources for faculty, staff, and students.

Essential Functions

  • Lead and manage the Identity and Access Management (IAM) team to develop and implement identity and access management policies and procedures.
  • Lead team efforts to ensure effective IAM operations and project delivery.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvement to existing campus systems and processes.
  • Regularly review, evaluate and update access policies based on changing organizational needs and compliance requirements.
  • Manage user provisioning and de-provisioning processes.
  • Collaborate with IT security team, system administrators, stakeholders and/or external partners and vendors to integrate identity and access management solutions.
  • Monitor and audit access controls to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Participate in incident response and security incident investigations related to access control breaches.
  • Lead the IAM team to provide training and support to end-users on identity and access management best practices.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship and performance evaluations for team members.

Other Functions

  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment both internally, cross-functional within IT and across the university to enhance security and streamline access management.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies related to identity and access management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field with more than 7 years of professional IT experience; or Associate's degree in the field stated above with more than 9 years of professional IT experience.
  • Experience with identity and access management systems (e.g., Active Directory, LDAP).
  • Strong knowledge of security protocols and authentication methods.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Industry certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM).
  • Experience in higher education or large organizations.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based identity management solutions.
  • Supervisory experience managing a small team.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Typical Office Activities.
  • This role may require occasional travel between campuses or off-site locations.

Work Schedule

  • Monday to Friday 37.5 hours a week with occasional flexibility.
  • Hybrid Work Model - This position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee's work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week. As this position falls within the Professional Staff Union, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the Professional Staff Union collective bargaining agreement.
  • Remote Work Model - This position has the opportunity for a remote work schedule, which is defined by the University as an
    arrangement where the employee's work location is to work from a site other than the UMass Amherst campus. As this
    position falls within the Professional Staff Union, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the Professional Staff Union collective bargaining agreement
