The purpose of this internship is to provide training to students who would like to pursue a career in research. The intern will gain hands-on experience in basic statistical analysis and entry level experience running analytical simulations, and using visualization tools.















Responsibilities









The intern position with focus on visualization of the output of epidemiological transmission models for web applications. Applicant will be joining a dynamic multi-disciplinary group which develops COVID transmission models for Washingtons State and Oregon to study the relationship between underlying community vulnerabilities and governmental and social responses to epidemics and aid future pandemic preparedness.

Among the key objectives of the modeling work are improving the understanding of SARS-CoV-2 transmission and COVID-19 disease dynamics, designing and evaluating public-health interventions which minimize both, disease burden and health disparities due to COVID-19 and maintaining online visualization tools which allow for easy access to modeling results and exploration of alternative scenarios















Qualifications









MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program - juniors or seniors.
  • Experience programming in R or Python for data manipulation and data visualization
  • Good organization and communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with population models (epidemic, predator-prey, etc.) is a plus
  • Completed classes in computer science, applied math, or epidemiology
  • Previous class project experience in biological mathematical modelling.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.00 to $25.45 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
