Your Role With Us:

As a Pharmacy Technician (Outpatient), your desire to provide friendly, timely and accurate service to those we serve, will help us go that extra mile for our valued customers and will members of our healthcare team to perform duties in an effective manner.

Core Functions:

  • Maintain proficiency in accuracy of medication filling, delivery, selling, and computer entries pertaining to patient profiles and patient history in both a teamwork setting and when working independently.
  • Assists with the phone as needed and answers promptly; Able to handle more than one call at a time; Maintains proper phone etiquette; Receives records and relays messages accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Organizes and prioritizes workload to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assists in training new staff. Keeps current with changes and learns new procedures in a timely manner.
  • Perform basic problem solving skills. 6. Participates in assigned quality assurance activities required to maintain the established standard of departmental performance.
  • Takes part in outdate check of all medications in all pharmacy areas.
  • Maintains adequate levels of medication inventory in accordance to usage and utilizes lean processes.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy and non-pharmacy teams to provide exceptional patient care and patient experience.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
  • Retail/Meds-to-Beds: Helps health care providers and patients by greeting them in person and/or by phone; answering questions and requests; referring inquiries and care needs to the pharmacist.
  • Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed medications and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt; removing outdated drugs.
  • Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Organizes medications for pharmacist to dispense by reading medication orders and prescriptions; performing prescription data entry functions; generating labels; calculating quantities and counting out or measuring medications into vials or bottles; assembling discharge orders then coordinates with pharmacist(s) who will counsel patient.
  • Ensures medication availability by accurately delivering medications to patients or departments as well as processing claims for payment by calculating, recording, and issuing charges or coordinating benefit coverage with third party payers or other departments within Salem Health.
  • Maintains records by recording and filing physicians' orders and prescriptions then prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information.
  • Maintains accurate patient demographic information through interview, organizations electronic medical record, or from other providers.

    Background/Expertise:

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
    • Prior Pharmacy experience with extensive customer interaction preferred.
    • Current Oregon Board of Pharmacy Technician License required.
    • National Certification required through the NHA (National Healthcareer Association) or PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) within (1) year from date of hire.
    • Understands and applies knowledge of infection control practices and proper body mechanics.
    • Exhibits excellent communication skills (verbal and listening) and teamwork skills; Effective critical thinking and problem solving skills.
    • Must have Legible handwriting.
    • Must be able to accurately type 30 wpm.
    • Must be capable of medium work, including some lifting, bending and stooping; must be able to walk extended distances, use the stairs and remain standing for prolonged time periods.
    • Must demonstrate appropriate conduct, manner and grooming.
