Position: Research Technician I, Pathology

Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week, on-site

POSITION SUMMARY:

Research Technician I will be required to analyze specimens; will be required to analyze data using statistical analysis software and create presentable graphs, figures, tables, etc. of the data. Research Technician I will interact with students, laboratory technicians, Principal Investigators, and research teams to plan, carry out, and maintain ongoing studies including coordinating and implementing subject recruitment, enrollment, sample collection, sample processing, follow-up, data collection, and study conduct. Additionally, Research Technician I will help to maintain equipment and reagent/materials and supplies used for research.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate with research partners on and off campus to ensure proper data sharing, troubleshoot problems, and maintain organized data files.

  • Assists in the orientation and teaching of new trainees and technicians.

  • Prepares, submits, and presents written reports of scientific findings in scientific journals and at national meetings.

  • Uses SAS/R/GraphPad to analyze data and prepare figures and tables for publication.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field required. Master's degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a minimum of two years of research experience.

  • Experience with laboratory protocols and human biology highly desirable but not required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Requires the knowledge computer-based software and analytical ability to accurately analyze results.

  • Good computer skills, including data entry, use of spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel) and database, statistical analysis software (SAS, R)

  • Excellent interpersonal and English verbal and written language skills sufficient to exchange information with research staff, interact with other laboratory technicians and prepare written reports for publication.

  • Requires safe handling of potentially infectious materials or noxious chemicals, using appropriate hospital, laboratory, and bio-safety precautions.

  • Requires the manual/visual dexterity necessary to prepare specimens, prepare solutions, screen specimens, and operate a computer software system.

  • Experience with scientific writing is highly desirable.
