About our Program:

CSU: The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) is a 23hr 59min hospital diversion program available for children on a 5150 "hold" or involuntary commitment. The CSU provides services to children experiencing a mental health crisis or emergency.
Services provided include a comprehensive risk assessment by a clinician, as well as assessments by psychiatrists and nurses. Additionally, there will be recommendations for after care planning, referral to outpatient services, and if needed, post crisis stabilization services (PCSS) for ongoing mental health services.

JOB SUMMARY

Works within the vision, mission and philosophy of the agency. The Registered Nurse monitors the health of children and youth and assures physician orders are followed. Completes general health assessments, assures medications are properly and safely ordered, administered and stored, maintains vital information in charts and reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1. Coordinates, schedules, and oversees all pediatric medical treatment of youth within residential cottage programs:

A. Admits and discharges youth from units, including completing Health Assessments using body charts, monthly vital signs, physical assessments, and determines physiological status.

B. Monitors and implements the systems of care delivery for pediatric nursing / medical activities and pharmacological care.

C. Schedules medical, dental and laboratory appointments considering medical requirements, residential care and transportation schedules.

D. Schedules external psychiatric appointments and follow-up as delegated by attending psychiatrist.

2. Follows MD orders, overseeing, evaluating, and implementing all activities and functions around ordering, monitoring, documenting and handling of medications.

3. Monitors youth for potential medication side effects.

4. Maintains and manages medical and psychiatric records in an organized and timely manner, to meet the standards of care, accreditation, licensing requirements and patient care needs.

5. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team, organizes and provides staff, parent and child education regarding health, safety, pediatric, psychiatric and medication issues.

6. Is available on an on-call basis after hours and on weekends to respond to special needs of youth, responding to psychiatric emergencies with appropriate intervention.

7. Conducts classes for cottage / milieu staff to safely assist youth with the self-administration of medication.

8. Attends committees, team and staff meetings.

9. Assists in the implementation of Infection Control Program.

10. Other related responsibilities, including various quality assurance functions, as assigned, or other duties to support specific department/business needs

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Associate of Arts/Science (A.A./A.S.) in nursing

Two (2) years of nursing experience.

• Current licensure in California
