Position Summary

Responsible for the driving/picking up donations and providing initial contact to clients seeking help, whether by phone or in person, Position includes providing basic material assistance to clients as well as information and referrals as necessary. General office work and assisting in other matters relating to the Family Services operations.

Essential Functions

  • Daily pick up of food donations from pat1ner agencies for food bank.
  • Keeping accurate records of weight and value of donations.
  • Assist with ensuring donations are placed in proper location.
  • Assist with stocking and organizing pantry.
  • Maintain clean vehicles.
  • Keep mileage logs for vehicles.
  • As liaison, maintain positive working relationships with volunteers. Visitors. And community Representatives.
  • Receive and screen incoming calls; provide necessary information to callers or direct call to appropriate person, taking messages if necessary.
  • Greet incoming clients in a pleasant manner; provide basic and initial screening to assess specific needs on first-come/first serve basis.
  • Provide basic assistance to the clients as resources allow and as policies dictate; if necessary, refer clients to other appropriate agencies in the community
  • Complete general office work, enter client information into computer database in timely manner, and maintain client files; attach all appropriate paperwork to current application.
  • Ensure client confidentiality on all information shared.
  • Maintain accurate records of in-kind and financial assistance provided, complete daily and monthly statistical reports.
  • Assist in administration of special programs and services (i.e., gas and electric, FEMA, rent assistance, water and other special assistance types of programs) when assigned
  • All other duties assigned.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk. Stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Ability to operate computer.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working effectively with clients, staff, and others of diverse backgrounds and interest.
  • Valid California driver's license to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
  • Separate pass background and Smith test.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

  • Knowledge of Salvation Army policies and procedures, helpful.

  • Demonstrate maturity and Judgment in making decisions in the best interest of El Cajon Corps and client, seeking supervision and/or consultation when needed.
  • Complete standard Protecting the Mission training and background check per Salvation Army policy.
  • Possess high degree of initiative, willingness to help people, and desire to be effective team member.
  • Demonstrate sense of cleanliness, tidiness and neatness.
