How will you make an impact?

The Support Scientist I will work on a team of individuals focused on supporting the site's QC Laboratory Operations. This team is responsible for a variety of tasks in support of analytical laboratories: management of analytical testing samples and backups, analytical standards, assay controls, laboratory reagents, and other laboratory inventory management. This role acts as an ongoing support function to our analytical laboratories and may support a variety of rotational activities that help laboratory analysts complete testing more efficiently and more effectively without such support. This role does not perform hands on testing of product samples.

What will you do?

  • Routinely working with laboratory analysts and laboratory scheduler to ensure analysts have all required supplies prior to testing initiation.
  • Apply a variety of information management systems and tools to effectively manage inventory and logistics for samples, standards, assay controls, critical reagents, consumables, and other items in support of the QC laboratory operations.
  • Participate and lead PPI (process improvements) projects in support of improving laboratory efficiency and right-first-time execution.
  • Assist laboratory analysts with a variety of non-billable support activities: glassware handling/labeling, laboratory waste management, laboratory inspections and walkthroughs, labeling, kanban/5S systems, etc.
  • Assist with the creation and monitoring of purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and other procurement means in order to fulfill inventory requirements needed by the laboratory operations.
  • Collect, wash, and re-distribute laboratory glassware.
  • Manage laboratory waste transport to designated EHS drop-off areas.
  • Assist with the creation of databases to understand material requirements for each analytical test method.
  • May assist with simple solution preparations - buffers, mobile phase, etc.
  • Assists with the laboratory PMs where appropriate.
  • Revise documents in the site's EDMS system as deemed appropriate.
  • May perform tasks in the site's QMS system.
  • Assist with additional laboratory support duties (future non-billable, non-critical tasks) as necessary to meet departmental goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

How will you get here?

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree, STEM degree preferred.
  • Bachelor's degrees are a plus, but not required for the role.


  • Minimum of 1 years experience working in a GMP regulated environment (none required if the candidate holds a bachelor's degree)
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in a QC role: Support, Sample Management, or Analyst Role preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with electronic laboratory systems: Sample Tracking, LIMS, Laboratory Inventory Management, etc.

Knowledge

  • Awareness and basic understanding of GMP regulations in a GMP environment
  • Basic Knowledge of cGMP practices and aseptic techniques
  • Basic Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
  • Knowledge of basic inventory management principles: FIFO, Kanban, Purchase Requisition, Purchase Order, VMI, demand forecasting, cycle counts, location management, etc.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

A flexible work schedule is required.

Ability to lift up to 25 lbs independently, with occasional heavier objects of up to 50lbs with assistance.

Routine push/pull/lift activities involving sample carts, sample freezer trays, and other objects.

Must be able to wear gloves and other PPE to handle samples.

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. This role is actively moving between desk and laboratory work.
