Position Summary:


To greet, register and collect data on patients coming into the Department of Medical Imaging. Performs exam ordering and other clerical duties as required. This position also is responsible for using the Picture Archiving System (PACS) for image access, image processing and image distribution. Serves as contact for all Medical Imaging services, telephone calls and requests for records. Completes CD creating exams as well as hard copy of films. Directs telephone traffic to the appropriate location in an efficient and courteous manner.

Essential Functions:


  • Uses time, supplies, and other resources productively to promote responsive and cost-effective care. Answers phones promptly with a pleasant tone, states name and unit/department. Understands phone functions, such as hold and transfer, and explains to callers what you are doing. Takes accurate and complete messages and delivers them promptly. Faxes information to offices as requested. Overhead pages staff for calls in a professional manner. Communicates any delay in processing requests to appropriate persons. Is resourceful and effective in dealing with stressful situations and/or emergencies. Demonstrate productive use of time and completes work within assigned shift. Prioritizes work to meet department needs, standards, and deadlines. Calls for exam scripts not in EPIC and ensures scripts are available the day of exam. Demonstrates working knowledge of release of information and confidentiality policies regarding records. Assists customers in accessing portal to retrieve reports.
  • Completes varying duties in communications area and serves as a resource person to medical staff and patients. Efficiently separates and accurately distributes reports/films according to the established guidelines for the outside clinics. Follows up on undelivered reports to ensure they are sent to the appropriate doctor. Picks up and sorts department mail. Demonstrates working knowledge of release of information and confidentiality policies regarding records.
  • Assists with patient flow through preparation of requisitions and other log sheets while maintaining FOCUS values in all interactions with patients and peers. Greet patients arriving for appointments in a professional, positive and friendly manner. Efficiently gathers data from patients in order to activate the check in document on outpatients in a timely manner to ensure accuracy of patients' information in the HIS system and notifies the appropriate area as needed. Assists patients with gowning as needed. Ensures a signed physician order for the procedure is available for our records. Responds to call lights in a timely manner and notifies appropriate staff to attend to the request. Check in and distribute images from outside sources.
  • Completes varying duties of records technician and serves as a resource person to medical staff and patients. Assists physicians and other hospital personnel in locating images for review in PACS. Knowledgeable of record retention policy. Knowledgeable of RIS system for record tracking and locating. Has ability to burn CD's and sends electronically to and from PACS as requested from staff and customers. Has ability to troubleshoot within PACS.
