Award-winning Wagner Logistics is seeking a Warehouse Manager for a 500k square foot warehouse in the De Soto, Kansas, area. The company provides supply chain services, including distribution center management, warehousing, transportation, and order fulfillment.

As the Warehouse Manager, reporting to the Director of Operations, you will be responsible for the overall P&L performance of the warehouse, including Customer Relationship Management with 20+ different customers, Customer Service, and Warehouse Operations.

The Warehouse Manager is responsible for the overall performance of the warehouse including customer relationship management, financial performance, operations, safety, customer service, office operations, security and regulatory compliance. The Warehouse Manager plans, organizes, directs, and controls all warehouse activities for a two shift operation. The selection, professional development, and motivation of all personnel are key responsibilities. The Warehouse Manager assists senior management in establishing performance objectives and strategic planning. The Warehouse Manager is accountable for achieving prescribed company objectives regarding customer service, safety, quality assurance, cost control, inventory control, productivity, security, profit, and return on investments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Communications

Interact with Senior Management, Corporate Staff, Safety personnel, IT and Engineering personnel, Logistics Management, Sales & Marketing personnel, Equipment and Facility Maintenance personnel. Maintain regular contact with Customer. Hold management and staff meetings to organize warehouse activities. Participate in local trade, professional, and civic associations as a representative of the company.

Operations

Ensure the development and enforcement of systems and procedures for operating and managing warehouse facilities, material handling & transportation equipment, and human resources. Plan, direct, and implement warehouse operations and administrative support to meet prescribed productivity and service goals. Actively promote safe work habits and processes necessary to prevent personal injuries or accidents resulting in damage to property or merchandise. Ensure that all company activities and operations are carried out in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and laws governing business operations. Personnel Management Direct the activities of the warehouse team to achieve prescribed objectives. Apply effective communication and motivational techniques and create programs to supervise, counsel, and discipline subordinates. Assist Human Resources in creating programs for hiring, training and professional development. Recommend promotions, wage increases or terminations. Create and sustain a good place to work culture.

Information Technology

Assist VP of IT to ensure the implementation of warehouse management information systems necessary to meet company and customer objectives and to facilitate the efficient operation of warehouse facilities. Maintain a working knowledge of company and customers warehouse management information systems.

Customer Service

Oversee the establishment of customer service standards for all accounts and the communication of these standards to personnel. Assure that customers receive the required level of service and quality. Maintain appropriate contact with customers and respond to requests as necessary.

Marketing & Sales

Work closely with senior management and corporate sales personnel in achieving sales objectives. Participate in company marketing and sales efforts, including planning new account strategies, developing and quoting rates, and local networking.

Budgeting

Develop and recommend an annual operating budget. Develop and manage a system of controls to ensure that service levels and operational performance goals are met within prescribed cost, revenue, and profit parameters. Negotiate best value with vendors for services and supplies. Work with corporate accounting to ensure preparation of accurate Profit and Loss Statements and Customer Profitability Reports. Ensure accounts achieve predetermined profit standards.

Equipment & Facilities

Develop and enforce suitable programs for maintaining company standards of equipment and facility maintenance, housekeeping, and safety. Ensure strict compliance with the company security policies and procedures designed to protect the wellbeing of employees, visitors, merchandise, equipment and property. Monitor equipment usage and submit the necessary justification for additional or replacement equipment required for an efficient and cost-effective operation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business with a specialization in Logistics, or Supply Chain preferred. High school or GED required.
Experience: 8+ or more years of demonstrated effective customer relationships and supervisory skills, with a work history of successfully managing warehouse/distribution center operations in a 3PL environment. Experience managing multiple warehouse processes such as pallets, case picks, each picks. Previous experience managing financial performance preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • An experienced leader in the warehouse and logistics field.
  • Familiarity with personal computers, warehouse management systems and material handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of Safe warehousing practices and OSHA requirements.
  • A decisive individual who possesses a strategic focus as well as an operational implementation perspective.
  • Effective skills in planning, hiring, budgeting, organizing, controlling, communicating and problem solving. The ability to develop effective relationships, provide leadership, and integrate diverse individuals toward profitability objectives is essential.
  • Demonstrated proficiency at creating and sustaining a good place to work culture and developing a team.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Ability to sit for up to 8-hour periods of time and repetitively
  • Work in a non-climate-controlled office and warehouse environment
  • Use hands and fingers for keyboard and computer input
  • Use eyes, ears, and voice for seeing, hearing, and speaking in telephone and to others
  • Ability to stand, sit, squat, crawl, bend, twist, reach and/or kneel for up to 12-hour periods of time and repetitively
  • Exposure to varying temperatures: heat, cold, wet, damp, drafty
  • Work on concrete and unlevel surfaces
  • May be required to frequently climb ladders and stairs
  • Work around hazardous materials and may be exposed to carcinogens, toxic, and explosive materials
  • Possible exposure to areas with high noise levels that may require hearing protection
  • Use hands and fingers to grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying sizes and weights
  • Utilize muscles to lift, push, pull or carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds
