SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION WITHIN DEPARTMENT:



Operate Distribution Center (warehouse) equipment to include electric powered forklifts equipped with fork attachments to lift, stack, unstack and move product. Ensure product is stored in the correct areas of the Distribution Center. Load transport vehicles; e.g., trailers and railcars making sure loads are evenly and securely placed. Unload transport vehicles moving materials to proper locations in the Distribution Center.





ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OPERATIONS:




  • Safely operate electric powered forklift (clamp, slip sheet, double fork), pallet jack and/or any other material handling equipment as required in carrying out job functions.

  • Operate a forklift safely while unloading, loading, locating, relocating, stacking and counting of product. Ensure the load does not exceed the equipment capacity.

  • Responsible for the accurate storing, shipping, receiving, and inventory of product to meet Company standards of safety, security and productivity.

  • Efficiently pick customer orders for shipment ensuring that the correct number and type product is loaded and shipped. Assemble various types of product for shipment. Carry or transport orders to shipping locations or delivery platforms with product handling equipment. Stencil, tag or mark orders as requested. This function is accomplished with a high level of skill, completeness and accuracy.

  • Efficiently unload inbound shipments and move product to storage and/or outbound shipment locations and load appropriate transport vehicles.

  • Efficiently move product from staging and/or storage areas into railcars or trailers for outbound shipments.

  • Check in and/or count freight for accuracy and/or damage and infestation.

  • Keep appropriate records and reports to guarantee that tight inventory control and security are maintained.

  • Assist in physical inventories as directed.

  • Ensure proper stock rotation.

  • Clean railcars, trailers and truck bays as requested.

  • Must have working knowledge of radio frequency systems.

  • Meet expectations for attendance and punctuality.

  • Perform pre-operational daily safety-check of forklift before operating the equipment and complete required paperwork.

  • Make minor adjustments to forklift.

  • Change and/or charge the forklift battery as needed; adhering to all safety mandates and proper procedures.

  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.











SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE REQUIRED:



Must be forklift certified or meet the requirements for becoming certified immediately upon employment.

  • Compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.










PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:





  • Must be capable of sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.

  • Pushing/pulling railcar doors using 80-150 pounds muscle force multiple times per day.

  • Carrying - 10-60 pounds frequently for distances 20 feet or less; occasionally 25 feet. (On several occasions throughout the year lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds is required on a frequent basis.)

  • Lifting - 10-60 pounds frequently from vertical distances 5-70 inches from floor; occasional lifting shoulder to overhead of lighter amounts. (On several occasions throughout the year lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds is required on a frequent basis.) May lift and lower overhead door using 80-150 pounds muscle force approximately 10-12 times per day. May lift and lower dock plates with muscle force of 100-190 pounds 10-12 times per day.

  • Pushing/Pulling boxes up to 100 pounds at vertical heights varying 5 to 70 inches.

  • Bending - frequent forward and side bending when lifting and loading boxes and driving forklift.

  • Reaching/handling - continuous.

  • Twisting - frequent at neck and trunk while driving and during materials handling.

  • Climbing - frequent on/off forklift (16 inches height).

  • Crawling - occasional for short duration.

  • Use of hand and foot controls - during work shift with both hands and right foot.





ENVIRONMENT:


  • Noise in the work environment is usually loud.

  • Forklift operators work indoors and outdoors. Indoor and outdoor temperature ranges generally described between 30-80 degrees Fahrenheit.
