Description

Reports to the President and is responsible for identifying, tracking, justifying and controlling over $80 million of shoreside and marine assets at seven locations across the Hawaiian Islands.

Essential Functions:


* Works within organization to identify financial, regulatory, compliance and maintenance information needs concerning asset management.
* Collaborates with shoreside and marine personnel to identify and track all physical assets in a suitable format and develops processes and procedures to provide required information.
* Works with team to identify appropriate data management system and processes to improve asset management capabilities and reduce costs.
* Establishes processes and procedures for all types of assets including capital requests and approvals, alternatives analysis and justification, tracking and performance through disposal.
* Develops an asset management system that meets the needs of the financial department, for both GAAP and regulatory accounting and the regulatory department to support Public Utilities Commission.
* Develops asset management policies and procedures concerning new versus maintain and lease versus buy.
* Establishes a performance measurement system by equipment category to evaluate utilization and assist in decision-making affecting the number of assets under management required to meet business needs.
* Prepares a detailed five-year annual capital expenditure plan for all assets and 10, 20 and 30-year long-range capital expenditure forecast.
* Develops an asset management and control system to know where equipment is at all times and if it is in or out of service.
* Identifies, tracks and ensures compliance with all state, county and federal requirements.
* Annually verifies physical assets and reconciles accounting and asset tracking systems.
* Incorporates continuous improvement into asset management and related functions to improve company operations.
* Identifies and incorporates asset management best practices and industry standards for useful life and depreciation.
* Authors testimony to support assets in rate base for regulatory proceedings before the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission.
* Performs special duties and other projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


* Must be a self-starter and team player who is able to develop processes, procedures and policies to meet the asset management needs of the business.
* Must possess excellent quantitative analysis skills such as buy new versus repair, buy versus lease, life cycle analysis and utilization.
* Demonstrated experience developing and managing budgets and forecasts.
* Strong knowledge of asset management information systems.
* Demonstrated experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and regulatory accounting.
* Must have a strong understanding of asset utilization and performance metrics and be able to right-size assets under management to meet business objectives.
* Strong understanding of the information requirements placed on a regulated entity.
* Strong engineering, manufacturing or process background to understand work flow.
* Proficient in asset management systems or Microsoft Excel and financial analysis, analyzing data to make fact-based decisions.
* Strong business acumen, judgment and maturity with ability to differentiate strategic versus non-strategic opportunities.
* Demonstrated ability to influence at all levels within the organization.
* Effective communication skills -- must be articulate and able to communicate with employees at all levels across the organization, from front-line worker to executives.
* Ability to work effectively with all levels of business and community leaders with a verifiable track record of relationship building with both internal and external customers.
* Ability to organize and prioritize workload, effectively manage time and meet deadlines.

Minimum Requirements:


* Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or operations management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Minimum five-years' experience directly leading teams required.
* Project management experience preferred.
* Familiarity with transportation and/or logistics or maritime field preferred.
